Revell AG VW Beetle

Hei Geoff, aren't that sheetmetal plates covering the engine's cylinders from behind supposed to be painted black?

The last time I saw one of those cars, that pieces of metal were painted black, and the exhaust "heat accumulators" just by them were painted flat gray.

I'm gusssing he's not done with it yet, cause his work so far has been spot on, but yeah. The tins between the engine and heat exchangers should be a semi gloss black. Along with the valve covers, and the oil drain plate. The heat exchangers should be semi gloss/flat grey, probably between light and dark ghost grey. The engine block is magnesium, while the transmission is aluminum. Magnesium is this weird silver-grey with a yellowish tinge.

It will be sorted before the end of the build, got a bit done yesterday getting the interior side panels fixed in place, the parts go together like a jigsaw puzzle,

That's a complicated assembly.

The good part is that it allows a lot of detailing, and you for sure are making use of the possibilities the kit offers Geoff.

Top notch work.

I have a question for the guys who are into Bugs:

On our Brazilian built VW Bugs, the stamped steel panned above the driver and passenger is painted body color. on European Bugs is it the same?

My uncle had a '69 1200 and a '77 1300L and both were body color on that spot. I had a '73 1500 for about a month, and that car had a wood grain plastic cover over the dash, but again, the panel from under the dash to the pedals was body colored.

Well the commission build was finished back in June, one magazine article finished, still got another one to do, so after a break of around 4 months I thought it was about time I dug out the beetle kit, anyway the interior s finished, now I'm working on the body, so hopefully the body and chassis will be as one very soon, Revell do give some decals for the side chrome trim, but they look like silver decals which isn't good enough for me, so they were done using bmf.

Starting to look like a Beetle now, although the parts fit has been 1st class up to now, when I come to put the interior pod and chassis together, they didn't want to go together, after a bit of grinding and sanding they finally went together, the main cuprit was the hump in the floorpan where the gearbox goes,
