High octane Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Really like your cats Tulio, as I've had three cats in the last 20-21 years. They're all in the cat cemetery in the back now and since some of the relatives are allergic to cats, no more for awhile. I REALLY did enjoy them, as my daughter left me two when she moved out on her own. I like dogs too, but other people's dogs.
slusher Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Hi all, This is Dixon, he's a Jack Russell, I got him from a rescue center in '09 and is approx 10yr old... My best friend...: - The day I picked him up...: - Out for a walk...: - Taking a break...: - And keeping warm by the fire...: - Great looking dog... This is our little boy Buddy. He's a Rhodesian Ridgeback/German Shepherd mix. We rescued him from Sean Casey Animal Rescue in Brooklyn on Nov. 21, 2010. He was approx. 10 months old & 65 lbs. when he came home. IMG_2457.JPG He just turned 4 and has filled out to 110lbs. IMG_0001.JPG No squirrel dares sets foot in our yard. He has one confirmed kill so far….. IMG_1768.jpg I never have to worry about leaving my Wife at home alone. He is so loving and gentle with family & friends. IMG_1321.jpg He also likes to play rough. The Shepherd bite is second only to a Rottweiler, and believe it or not, Pit Bulls are third. IMG_2109.PNG Great watchdog. But never mind his bite…. he'll drop you from 100 yards! IMG_1880.JPG love hearing these great stories of pets being rescued..
mnwildpunk Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 we had 2 dogs [super and sport] for a bit over 10 years, they were mutts, and were brothers, got them as pups. after they died, I was rather crushed, as they were family and told the wife I didn't want any more pets. so about 2 years later, my wifes grandmother passes away, and at the wake, my wife tells her aunt that she will be over the following week to get the cat, then looks at me and says 'oh, I forgot to tell you.....' so, the cat comes home, and is not happy! camps out under my recliner, and won't come out. after about 2 days, she starts coming out and hanging around the side of the chair within arms reach. so I start to pet her, and slowly, she came around to her new environment. she is now mostly glued to me [when she feels like dealing with humans], and follows me around the house, and really likes to curl up in my lap, especially when I am trying to type on this thing, lol. she's a real piece of work .looks like she should be on the cover of playkitty magazine lol. I don't have pix right now. But I never was a cat person I loved dogs I owned a wiener dog simon for 16 yrs best dog I ever had. but my g.f. At the time got two kittens the 24 toed cat skipper just became my best buddy and scout was a rascal until she escaped and got hit by a car. Shortly after I rescued a black cat for my own home named Mojo. I ended up replacing scout for my g.f. A pure white yoda looking cat she named maddox. I'll get pics as soon as I figure photobucket on my phone. There are some beautiful animals in this thread we are so lucky to have furry best friends are we not?
tubbs Posted January 24, 2014 Author Posted January 24, 2014 nice to see such a response to this, these animals are an extension of our family, they usually don't care if you come home in a good mood or not, they are there to greet you and make you happy, that is their goal.... and to tear things that are not theirs completely apart !! as the starter of this thread I listed my dog "Wilson", well, what I left out was that we also have a fish tank and an outdoor cat. well, it has not been a good week. on Wednesday, one of the smaller goldfish got caught in the siphon filter and died, on Thursday, the other small goldfish we had did the same thing. we have had this tank and the 4 (now 2) fish for over 6 months and nothing like this has ever happened, let alone 2 days in a row. so this morning, my wife calls me and said that our outdoor cat, "Whitey" who stays in a heated garage in my road runner passed sometime over the last 24 hours. we would try to bring her in on cold days but she enjoyed being outside. the last time I saw her is I let her in, she walked in, rubbed my leg and walked right back out, stood at the base of the steps and meowed at me, which she never does. she must have known something was wrong and she was saying her goodbyes. don't really know, but that is the way I perceive it to be. sad to say, work today is a little more harder and there is something missing inside. hope I didn't put a damper on anyone's day, life goes on. God bless all our pets who have passed on.

FASTBACK340 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Flip looks like a Dwarf Chewbacca! Yeah, we can't imagine our home without a Dog. It would so un-natural to wash dishes or try to cook without having a hound stretched out under foot. Especially a large one…. And we wouldn't change it for anything.

disabled modeler Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 So sorry about your cat Al. I have kids and pets are like kids also. I love cats and remember how when you lose one how it feels.... Ill second that Al...sorry for the loss...I lost my 21 year old Siamese last year...still feel the lost she was an indoor cat and was as small as a bar of soap when we found her as a stray.
FASTBACK340 Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 My brother-in-law just lost his six year old Cat this morning…. He's heartbroken. That's the day no pet owner looks forward to. Especially when they're that young. I'd be devastated to lose my boy early…..
tubbs Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 sorry about the cat john, it's hard. thanks everyone, not to be too off the wall, but I found myself kind of yelling at her as I pulled her out of my car. "now what did you go and do that for? who's gonna keep the mice out of the garage ?" of course the ground is way too hard to bury her right now. my dog keeps going out in the garage looking under the car where she used to run and smack him when he would chase her. anyways... life moves on and there is talk about getting an another indoor car (we had one before Wilson) so we will see where that leads. bunches of great looking pets out there living in great homes, we were out yesterday in the 15* weather and Wilson was having a blast in the snow, after and hour or so, we saw him lifting his paws up out of the snow, so when we tried to get him in, he would run around the house and dive into the snow banks biting the snow. he stayed out there probably another hour, just didn't want to go in, finally, when he did, he poop out for the night up on the bed.
mnwildpunk Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Loss of a pet is like losing a brother/sister/son or daughter depending on your relationship with said pet. I also had a cocker that my sister left me when she died. I loved that dog not you typical hyper cocker. Her name was Mindy but got the nickname roo-roo for the way she begged for treats with a lil bow-roo-roo. When Roo-roo passed it felt like I lost my sister all over again. Six years later and every once and awhile I expect her to be waiting at the door when I come home but no its just my knuckle head of a cat Mojo lol.

Tom Geiger Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 My Ted (he's a Cockapoo) is 14 and starting to show his age. He's having trouble jumping up on furniture. He'll try, miss and wait for assistance. He hesitates to go down the staircase (full flight hardwood steps, I don't blame him!) so I'll grab him up and carry him down. And he's cranky in his old age. He'll growl if he doesn't like something. Oh, I know it's just a matter of time. Both my wife and I have had dogs since we were kids, but now in our mid 50s, Ted will be the last, not wanting to take on another 15 year commitment. We said that the last time when my terrier Sandy died. It took us six years to get another dog. And that was sad. You don't realize how much a dog is part of your daily life until they're not there anymore. When Sandy died, I continued to 'step wide' when I got out of bed or off the couch, as if he would still be sleeping there. And every night when I let him out in the yard for his last call at night, I'd stand out on the back steps and breath the fresh air. I actually continued to do that for a while!

Dave Ambrose Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I have a few feline helpers on my hobby table. We put a cat bed in the back corner which acts as a containment. That way, they don't sprawl and push parts off the table. Here's Button, keeping an eye on my progress.
1972coronet Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Yesterday marked the 10 year anniversary of having Oliver as a very important member of our family . But , prior to adding him to our family , we'd adpoted another feline companion . She came from the same shelter where Oliver came from , just one year earlier . Her names is Molly ; she's a gorgeous Domestic Shorthair with Calico markings and green eyes . One of her neatest markings is a patch on her left side that's in the shape of Africa ! I believe her to be part Bombay (a gorgeous breed of solid black cats) , due to her physique and certain physical features . She was rescued on 28th Novembre 2002 . Oliver is a very unique kitty . He's definitely got some British Shorthair and / or American Shorthair in his gene pool ; thick-skinned ears ; big rounded eyes ; stocky build ; tail that's thick at its base , then tapers to a blunted tip . In spite of his build , he's quite the athlete ! He still charges about like a kitten ... and he's 11 years old ! I refer to him as a Ship's Cat , as he inspects everything that we bring home . Even if the new item(s) is / are hidden , he'll find them ! He also talks to his catnip toys . His vocalisations are that of a mum talking to her kittens ! Molly has always been mature , even as a tyke . She will occassionally run up-and-down the hall and let-out some playful growls . She sounds like a Mountain Lion ! For the most part , she just lay about , contented where-ever she is . She'll be turning 12 this year . My favouite feline folklore is the tale of the Maneki Neko ("Beckoning Cat") . See image(s) below for how this feline is portrayed in statue format .
mnwildpunk Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I wish more people would share i love reading about other peoples pets and the stories of their furry kids. This is one fun thread.
LoneWolf15 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I rescued a pitbull pup a little over a year ago , she was found tied to a railroad switch with a piece of bull rope with a bag of rotted dog food left beside her . My buddy removed the rope and left her there as he had to resume his patrol duties . On a whim , he went back after his shift to find her still sitting there . After seeing her picture and hearing the story , I sent Brian out to pick her up at the shelter the day before she was to be put down . I walked into the house that night after work to find Brian kneeling on the kitchen floor holding her . I knelt down and told him to let her go . She walked over , climbed into my lap , and laid her head into my neck and let out an enormous sigh , she was home and I was head over heels in love ! I named her Faith , which I thought was appropriate , given the situation . She was a bag of bones , literally ! It took a few months , but I had her filled out and growing just as she should have been all along . Highly intelligent , she was trained in no time flat , both voice and hand signals . Strong , smart , affectionate , great with people and other animals , she was tens straight across the board . I took her in to be spayed last February 4th , they put her under and the anesthetic stopped her heart , they couldn't bring her back . The cruel irony of it all shredded my heart . I cried for a week , couldn't talk about it without the tears starting all over again , each time I tried . Valentine's Day came , we all went out to dinner and a movie then went back to Kathie's house afterward . Sitting on the couch , I was checking my email when I noticed that the room had gone strangely quiet , they were all looking at me and smiling . I happened to glance down and then had to look again . There at my feet sat a black and white fur ball looking up at me with his head cocked to one side . I picked him up in my arms and he immediately settled in against my chest and began to lick my face . I cried .... Again ! Lol ! Between the two households , there are now 5 Pitbulls , a Dutch Shepard , one cat , and a Charpais , the latter being the only one out of the group who is not a rescue . Out of all the dogs that I have raised and trained , both for myself and others , the Pits are by far the easiest to train . If I had the land and money to do so , I would take them all , there would not be a single one left in the shelters ! The fur ball is now 70 pounds and still growing and is my constant companion . Every night , he lays his head on my chest and sighs deeply before he goes to sleep , just as Faith did . After she passed , I had stated " Never again, it hurts too much ". I learned that I cannot be that selfish , there are far too many out there waiting to be loved and cared for , regardless of their longevity ......
tubbs Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 I wish more people would share i love reading about other peoples pets and the stories of their furry kids. This is one fun thread. well, since i happen to be the one who started this thread, i have to say "thanks". i know my guy is a big part of our lives, just wanted to hear some of your stories out there. i wish i had time to respond to all of the stories out there, sad story Lonewolf15, at least there was a few bright days in that little girls life. probably not a day goes by were you don't think of her. i have pictures of our first 2 dogs along with both my boys and my wife at my desk. so c'mon people, you don't have to stoop at introductions, tell us stories, be it sad, happy, frustrating... whatever.
Big Daddy Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Here is ours our golden Charlie sadly passed away 6 years ago and then there is roy
MrObsessive Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Well, here are pics of my two "kids". The gray one is Captain------he's part Maine Coon with bushy tail and all and he's 12 years old. The other one's name is Yori, and she's a Japanese Bobtail. Yori's four years old now and she's a bit chubbier now since this pic was taken a couple years ago. Because of the big age difference, Yori runs the house and she bosses Captain around. Every once in awhile, Captain has had enough of her bossiness, and a fight erupts which will have her running and hiding for awhile. Cats are their own source of entertainment as evidenced by this video below..........
mnwildpunk Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 http://i705.photobucket.com/albums/ww60/ darylturner/DSC01613.jpg I have a soft spot in my heart for dachshunds I had my simon for16 yrs and if roy is anything like my Simon he has no clue he isn't a full sized dog. He looks like the king of the neighborhood. I had never seen or heard of a Japanese bobtail before are they born that way or do you dock the tail like a cocker spaniel? I need to get a laser pointer for my mojo I think we both would have fun. Oh By the way I couldn't tell the other cat was a Maine Coon lol. Big kitty
