Trailking120 Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) That is coming together really nice. Don't forget the KW emblem that sits behide the fender on the chrome plate. Edited February 12, 2014 by Trailking120
tbill Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 this is really shaping up nice, great looking work so far!
Kostas Parchas Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Yes the frame rails strech looks realy nice. IMO this truck would look much better without the roof cab fairing. Kostas.
BigBad Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) I love it! You have it just right. If I may make a suggestion, the vertcal split on the side window on the top of the sleeper cab on newer models and also the one you are building is not there, looking at the picture of the white and blue truck I posted, it doesn't have it. But the work you are putting on this is really good, I like the mudflaps, the lower cab extensions look correct and that hood is just massive, it really looks like a W900L! Keep going at it! Have you decided on colors yet? Edited February 13, 2014 by BigBad
KJ790 Posted February 13, 2014 Author Posted February 13, 2014 Thanks for the input guys. I am loosely basing this build on a truck that that I used to see about once a week. It was a late 90's W900L with a split windshield, fairing on top of the sleeper, and it still had the vertical bars on the sleeper windows and the actual cab windows. I'm planning on a dark red for this one as long as I can find the color that I have in my head. If I had to do this over again I think there would be a few things I would change, but I am still learning this whole model building thing. Thanks for the kind words everyone!
Trailking120 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 KJ the truck you are basing this on wouldn't be Tom Avery's old W-900L ? You are going a great job I hope to see it in person one day.

I just hope I can find a color that is close, otherwise I may be changing plans a bit. Edited February 13, 2014 by KJ790
ewaskew Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 This is looking real good keep up the good work.
KJ790 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 I've been making slow progress, but I got the engine in today.
olsbooks Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 This thing is going to be sharp! You are onto something great.
KJ790 Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Got some paint on. Once that is nice and dry I will paint the name on the door and a little pin striping. I need to work on the interior a bit now.
BigBad Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Love it! Very nice with color! I can see it with all the trim, it'll be a really good looking W900L! Keep it up!
KJ790 Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Got some of the interior done tonight. I think I'm still going to add a few minor details to the inside though.
olsbooks Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 That looks really good! How did you do your wood?
TRaymo Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Since ur doing the newer style cab and hood and sleeper you should make that an easy reach dash. They did away with the straight dash in the mid 80s
KJ790 Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 That looks really good! How did you do your wood? Thanks! I started with a white base, then painted a layer of brown over it leaving it streaky. I kept the streaky brush strokes all in one direction to get a wood grain look. Then I painted a clear orange layer over top to give it a lacquered look. Since ur doing the newer style cab and hood and sleeper you should make that an easy reach dash. They did away with the straight dash in the mid 80s You are right, I wasn't thinking at all! I think I'm going to have to change that when I get a chance.
TRaymo Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I have one of these snap kits and I cut the dash and pulled the center out and added some .20 styrene to make a easy reach dash it takes a lil time but is very doable
kilrathy10 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Very nice work....Your efforts are really paying off....I really like the fuel tank work and the battery boxes.....Your air cleaner looks awesome....Very nice fab work, Man....Very nice....I even like the color you chose....
KJ790 Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 Spent a few hours painting the name on the door and some pin striping. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.
KJ790 Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 I modified the interior a bit to try to make it a more modern shape. Not great, but by the time it is inside the truck you won't really be able to see it anyways. I want to make a small kenworth emblem to put in the center of the steering wheel.
Old Buckaroo Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 That pin striping is way cool , and nice looking wood grain also. Man your steering wheel and dash reminds me of this little creature
olsbooks Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Sean, you frighten me! Your thinking is too much like mine. Condolences offered...LOL. This looks great! Kuddos.
