bandit.93 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 are sink marks the lines that you see on the body when you hold it by light, if so how do you get rid of these?
ismaelg Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 (edited) No. What you describe is a mold line. You need to sand them down to get them to disappear. A sink mark is a place where the material didn't fill the mold completely. In that case you need to fill or add material to it. Here is a picture of sink marks in wheels. The spokes are supposed to be smooth. Thanks, Edited December 5, 2007 by ismaelg

Rob Hall Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Those are horrible! I've got a couple AMT Camaros and the sink marks aren't nearly that bad, but I have seen some in person that are. In fact the sink marks are not from a void in the plastic, but a common effect from a thicker-than-normal section of material that's run through a mold a bit faster than necessary. If they'd slow down the cycle rate the sink marks wouldn't be as bad. However AMT could and should have designed the spokes with a hollow area behind the thick part so that they wouldn't get sink marks like that. But of course AMT isn't known for quality control or spending an extra dime to make something right...once it's in the box, they don't care. I'm looking forward to getting a Revell Camaro, I hear it's wheels are perfect.

Zoom Zoom Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I have 4 of the AMT Camaros and one has no sink marks at all, IIRC...the others I'll strip the wheels, fill the marks, and do them in aluminum...(since the show car didn't have chromed wheels, they would need to be stripped anyway).
