Terry Jessee Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Just something I'm noodling with. This'll be an LAPD cruiser from the Joseph Wambaugh TV series, "Police Story." http://images9.fotki.com/v1493/photos/0/1025640/12775231/75impala-vi.jpg
SteveG Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Forgot all about that show, had to look up the cruisers they used on IMCDb.com. Mostly black and white full size Ford and Chevy's with a few Torino's and even a Pontiac Lemans. Looks like you have several choices for light bars, have you decided which one your going with ? Check out the can lights mounted on a bar on this 73 Chevy ....
GLMFAA1 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 'eleven mary six call the station' looking forward to seeing the build greg
Agent G Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Great show. Those can lights, aka "Mickey Mouse ears" are synonomous with the LAPD. They used them exclusively in that fashion for decades. The photo shown with the lights on a bar was strictly for the tv show. Easy removal and on to the next episode of the next cop show. Them were BIG cars! Can't wait to see this one. G
Edsel-Dan Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) I thought that "Mickey Mouse Ear" was the other name for Lollypop lights! Double sided, but NOT cans!! I have heard them called Coffee cans. And other California departments used them too. Not many states east of Cal. did though I too loved that show. I scan still hear that theme music!!! 'The Rookies' did the same with Cruisers. One scene had the Cans on the roof, the next had them on a rack like the pic above they had single element rotators. Cars changed from 72-73 Satellilte, to Mercury, etc Edited February 6, 2014 by Edsel-Dan
Agent G Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Dan I learned that from a guy who rode Hollywood for 11 years. I believe that's a reliable source!
