Bluemiles22 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Decided to step out of my comfort zone a little bit with this one. This is a build that I'm doing for my brother as a birthday gift. We grew up on back to the future so I figured this would make a cool little gift. It's the polar lights kit. The body did come with a nice steel finish on it but it seemed to have a yellowish tint to it, so I hit it with some metalizer and scuffed it up with some 600 grit paper. I also decided to sand off the molded in wires that run down the side of the car so I can make my own.
Synyster999 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 (edited) Cool! Been eyeing this one myself but was concerned because of the pre molded wires. Definitely looking forward to more pics Edited February 8, 2014 by Synyster999
72 Charger Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I started to do a stock one many years ago its still waiting to be finished . Im very interested in that Metalizer paint where does it come from?
72 Charger Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Testors makes Metalizer paints. Any well stocked hobby shop should have them I dont know if we have any hobby shops that sell Testors and im fairly sure that none of them have ever herd of Metalizers . Im not sure you can get it in the UK ?. If anybody knows different then let me know becuse it looks fantastic on this Delorian Dave
Bluemiles22 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 Ok I made up some wire of different sizes and color, looks close enough for me. Hopefully today I can't get most of the parts painted. I also te coated the body with stainless steel metalizer, the aluminum plate was just a shade too light for my liking.
A.R.C. Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I didnt realize there was a model of this car. I must have one! What brand is it? Btw, its looking great so far Rich. Look forward to more.
Bluemiles22 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 Thanks! This is the polar lights kit
72 Charger Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Im not trying to hijack your build just thought you would like to my efforts so far . The roof is now held with brass box section .The doors are hinged with brass rod bent to shape , All cables removed . I made the dash righthand drive but Im not sure if the real cars where or not the rear engine cover is as far as I got .I have to tackle the finned rear window . Anyway on with your build your doing a great job so far the cables look great . i just sat and watched the story of Mr Deloian wow and I can just remember it happening as a kid. Dave
Zarana-X Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 (edited) This kit was originally made by Aoshima, and was sold in the US in an AMT box.Polar Lights has re-issued it a few times, I think. One version has the DMC on the grille, and DeLorean on the rear bumper removed. There was a chrome bodied version, and the new version which has DMC back on the front, but still missing DeLorean on the rear. Edited February 14, 2014 by Zarana-X
72 Charger Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 In the story of Delorien no two cars where the same anyway . Aparently the frirst 400 cars where rebuilt once they got to the USA! .
slusher Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Someone should do a stock Delorean. That would be cool Lee...
