That's a nice build Steve, I have one in my to do cupboard. Did you use the decal for the orange stripe? If you did you got it to lay well over the NACA duct!!

Dave

Hi Dave Thank you, I didnt use the decals for the orange stripe, I opted to paint them on. The black trimmer is pactra trim tape, its kind of ok but a little too thick. Next time Ill paint the black trim too. The roundels are also painted on,the ones that came with the kit were too translucent.

Take care, Steve

Yes - the engine upgrade is available from Brad at historicracingminiatures@comcast.net and it is very nice.

Thank you Rex.

Really nice build....I have that kit, along with the resin engine from Historic Racing Miniatures, and plan on building it one of these days....if my paint and decals look as nice as yours I will be very happy....yours looks just beautiful......I was always a fan of the Gulf sponsored cars and this is a great example of maybe the most famous one of them.

Thank you very much Peter. she really is a beautiful car. Im going to start saving for one now, when Im 750 years old Ill go right out and buy one!! Ha ha ha!! :)

Really nice work, Steve. One of my favorite cars.

Did you use the kit decals for the orange stripes or did you paint them? If you used the decals, what paint did you use to get such a good match on the front valence?

Hi Larry thank you, I painted on the racing stripes. I used Tamiya sky blue and added almost 3/4 of white to lighten it up,and used Tamiya orange x-6.

really great job,,I think they wanted the mirror clear orange,,as to color mark the car,,as they do in real racing cars so the pit crews+ spotters can tell where which driver/car it is from a distance while its on the track,,I think.

Thank you Scott, that could very well be, just between you and I, I dont really know the first thing about auto racing, I mainly build aircraft. This was a commission build, now the guy I built it for,he is a guru on auto racing and keeps me up to date historically and in real time.
