chevy engine block for chaparral

anyone have a suggestion of what model kit that would have a good chevy engine to put in a chaparral race car. big block and small block

weber carbs. or an aftermarket company that makes a weber carb intake manifold for big and small block chevy.

Motor Racing Replica News (Issue 4) did a nice article on the 2C and 2D. They used the 327 block from Monogram's Rampage Camaro but this was written in 1991(!). There has to be a better choice now. For the 427 I would suggest any of Revell's 70's Corvette kits (Owens Corning, Stars & Strips etc). Not sure about the 327, I would have to do some research.

Monogram chaparrals are 1/24, and without question, the best 1/24 Chevy V8 engines are in the Accurate Miniatures McLarens and Corvette GS kits.

The big-block in the McLaren is fuel injected, and the smallblock in the Corvette kits has SIDE-draft Weber DCO-series carbs. Neither of these induction systems is right for the Weber IDA DOWN-draft carbs you probably want.

Bill the Owens Corninig kit is marked 1/24 scale and the Stars & Stripes Corvette kit is marked 1/25 scale. I just compared the bodies and they are exactly the same. So I am not real sure which scale they are. Regardless your right , the AM kits are a better choice.

yes, i have both of the accurate miniatures mclaren and corvette. for a chaparral it would be worth it to rob engine. need to find the proper intake manifold.

You can find an intake manifold and 4 Weber IDA's in the old AMT 63 Corvette kits, it's the only one I know of...oh...and it's for Big Block but as it's for a 1:25 scale kit it might fit a 1:24 Small Block, or widen it slighlty to fit the 1:24 Big Block.
Otherwise Harold Bradford at Historic Racing Miniatures has very nice Weber IDA's in his resin Cobra FIA engine kits and F40 engine and suspension kits and he also sell the Weber IDA carbs and manifold separate...they are all for Ford Small Block but the carbs are usable.

What Chaparral kit are you using?

i'm putting an engine in the LS brand chaparral 2c and have the nice webers. just trying to find a proper 4 weber intake manifold. for this model and other chaparral projects that don't have

engines.

I mentioned that in my first post, but there's not much difference between 1:24 and 1:25 and it must be possible to modify the 1:25 part to fit a 1:24 scale engine, maybe make it a bit longer and wider and you must be close...so it can't be that big a problem.

afx: I have no idea what type of Weber intake manifold the Chaparral cars had, I just mentioned the ones I know are available wich isn't much, but it can't be that hard to modify the intake to resemble the one in your pic or maybe even scratch build one with some Evergreen plastic stock, the shapes looks easy enough to copy.

Bill: Yes it's from the AMT 63 Corvette and it's in all issues after what I know...and even the 63 Corvette Convertible has this set up.

Several carburetor induction systems show up on Chaparrals, so check your references. The cast alloy unit represented in the Corvette kit is probably the least likely to have been run in anger.

Even a 6X1 setup early on...

Just a heads up. I have the AM Grand Sport kit and I tried using the Webers on the Fujimi Cobra. Both are 1/25, but the Webers from the AM kit are WAY too big.

Historic Racing miniatures make the nicest Webers around, but the stacks are molded in and the carbs are a little on the small side, so I am havign a hard time finding turned stacks to fit.

Another problem is that the AM kit induction systems run DCO series SIDE-draft carbs, and the Chaparral and Cobras ran IDA series DOWN-draft. You can't just turn any old Weber on its side...the float bowls have to be oriented correctly.
