Harry P. Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 don't believe you Harry! With your graphic design background you at least have to admire the box art! Oh, I can admire a nicely done illustration or slickly designed box cover. Absolutely. And there is a lot of very cool box art out there done by some pretty talented people. No question about that. I especially like Sean Svendsen's Moebius Chryslet kit art. Pretty cool, if you ask me. But the question was have you ever bought a model kit based strictly on the picture on the box. I would never buy a kit based strictly on the picture on the cover, no matter how well done. Because like I said, they can put anything on the box, and its relationship to what's actually in the box ranges from pretty solid to nonexistent.
Chuck Kourouklis Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 %100, strictly for the box art? Naw. Very nearly for the box art? Oh yeah. Round 2's been raking it in that way from me in recent years. Luckily, there's also usually some good content backdating to go with that box art.
gtx6970 Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Ok, let me rephrase the question. Would you buy an empty box ,,stricktly for the box art ? ,,,,,,Meaning you don't want it because you have the kit that goes in it
Harry P. Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Ok, let me rephrase the question. Would you buy an empty box ,,stricktly for the box art ? Not a chance. When I finish a kit, the box goes in the trash.
Casey Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Not a chance. When I finish a kit, the box goes in the trash. Even if you're s'posed to cut out the box top image and frame it?
Harry P. Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Even if you're s'posed to cut out the box top image and frame it? Yeah, no framed model car boxtops on my walls.
Tom Geiger Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Not a chance. When I finish a kit, the box goes in the trash. Won't be tossing this one.... (it's under the plastic, right on the box)
