alangarber Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I stripped a wrecker and toyed around with paint choices. Give honest opinions on what it looks like. Goods, bads, what could be added or changed. I am not sure if I'll keep this or not. Needs touch ups if kept this way, or even a wrecker Sides http:// Back of sleeper http://
72 Charger Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Hey Al its different . The important thing is do you like it? Its your truck . Personaly I dont like it its to fussy for my taste . Are you brush painting or spraying?
alangarber Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 Mark, I'm just messing around. Been sparying, and thinking about stripping again. Trying to find something different.
goodwin3224 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Doesn't look bad. I've got an idea in my head to liven that up a bit I'm just not sure how to put it into perspective
tbill Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 pinstripe around the borders and it's a home run i think.
goodwin3224 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) Light blue would look good or even yellow seeing how it's on the back of the sleeper. It would kinda tie it all together. Also the white looks good but a light to mid metallic silver with the yellow pinstripe would snazz it up all on its own Edited February 25, 2014 by goodwin3224
goodwin3224 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) Hope to not be annoying but if you also separated the yellow from the white on the back by a few 16ths with the main color and then pinstriped the yellow with silver and the white with yellow that would look pretty dang slick in my opinion Edited February 25, 2014 by goodwin3224
tbill Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 What color? I have a gold funny, I was thinking gold..... if you could somehow fade the yellow on the back into the white 'rays' I think that would pull the back together nicely, then you could stripe around the whole thing, rather than separate the 'sun' from it. [hope that makes sense]
Chariots of Fire Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 It won't matter what color you end up with unless you strip and start over. New paint will never hide what appear to be some real flaws in the surface. I don't think sanding is an option either. The paint appears thick and would take forever to get smooth. Hopefully you can pop the glass out and start over. What are you using for paint?
alangarber Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 It was a scrapper. I am stripping it down bare now. Need paint schemes for this freightliner.
ewaskew Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Regardless of the truck your painting smooth your main body color by wet sanding it until you get it right. Gloss coat and let it dry until it is hard I wait a least a week or more for mine to gas out and dry. That way when it is taped for the stripes or two tone color, should any paint lift off it should just be the clear coat. The longer you wait the better it will be. After it is dry tape your area off for your next color, spray a light coat of clear over the area and let it dry before putting your color on, that will help prevent bleed through on the edges. As for the design I would make the top edge of the bottom line taper in just below the bottom of the sleeper door pull handle and wrap it around the bottom edge of the sleeper across the back of the sleeper. As far as the Sun design I would paint it like it was behind some clouds maybe late in the day with some orange against a dark color. Rough/Natural edges instead of sharp edges like a flag. Centered on the sleeper Same method if you paint a Moon mural. Just some idea's if you want to use them. God Bless
