jack_fletcherr Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 My revell '49 mercury arrived yesterday. I'm gonna need a lot of advice throughout this build - so be prepared for stupid questions. The Idea is slammed, Primer, rust. inspiration Here it is mocked up with my chosen wheels, I am not sure on tyres yet but we will see. (sorry it is out of focus ) I am thinking of putting weld lines on the chop top and doing a primer over rust paintjob but a mint engine bay, frame, floor pan, etc. tatty interior Jack
crazyrichard Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) nice !! one thing to start with if you really want to slam it like the one you posted .. you need to make the bottom line of the rear wheel well cover straight and place the cover a tad lower so the lower lines is level with the lower body line .. just a observation would make a lot of difference Edited March 2, 2014 by crazyrichard
DirtModeler Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Love the subject! Always had a soft spot for 49' Mercs. google scale rust using rock salt.. I just stumbled across it the other day, and i might try it myself for my project.
scale trucker Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 also the first car you put pic of is a 50 ford..but kool idea
Tom Kren Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 interior pic you can scan plates off internet make decals and add then in interior
Ramcharger Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Needs more chop! Just kidding, looks good so far.
jack_fletcherr Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 started to rust the bonnet and I also have settled on the wheel/tyre combo. I am going to make the rear tyres whitewall, so if anyone knows what paint to use, etc... LMK. I also added the lips from the kit to the rear wheels Opinions?
crazyrichard Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 i dig it !!! rust looks great .. maybe the layer is a tad thick , try to get a thinenr layer like that on the body a tad less rough (the structure) .. maybe a lot of body detail will be lost when its that thick ? like it becomes less detailed ..but the look > awsome and the rust look is coolyou could also do the bonnet and trunk rust and the rest primered or ...

Cheers for the advice. I was thinking of doing the salt thing and then primer over it, so it looks like there is rust comming through the primer. Doing that all over the body with rust in the usual places, the possibly a new door or boot lid? I'll just see where te build takes me Jack
crazyrichard Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 yes btw i also like the rear wells without the covers and those ticker rear tyres ... i would keep them open like this .. looks great

JasonFL Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I like the car so much i started digging around.. found a video of it: Hey Jack, Always loved this car. It's a 49 Ford Tudor. The guy lives not to far from me in south florida. His name is Bob and he owns a shop called Mad Mods. If you google him you should be able to come up with some reference photos. If you have trouble or need more photos let me know. I have a ton of photos of everything I could dig out. Good luck with the build. Love the concept, can't wait to see more progress.
