Jeremy Jon Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Well, to fill the void, while I still am unpacking & setting up at my new place, this is a small side project I dabbled with in between other current projects I may likely mold & cast this into a kit at some point, but only after my more immediate kit projects are completed and ready I had these left over parts from an accurate miniatures M8B kit, which I used some donor parts from for my M6GT kit build, and had the body + main chassis still In the '70's a company called Manta, produced a kit car copy of the McLaren M8B, calling it the Mirage There was even one featured in the original movie "Gone in 60 seconds"! They were mid engine, and set up for SBC engines, or just about any drivetrain the owner / builder wanted Many became abandoned or wrecked, but still some are around today, kept by their current owners For a modeller, it could be a fun little kit to build, using any drivetrain you could make fit, any wheels you'd like, either old school, or new flash! Just like the original Manta kit car, the inspiration came from the (Bruce) McLaren M8B racing Can-am car! Though the kit car has many differences, like a much longer nose, different bodywork details, an interior with molded seats, and integrated tubular chassis. Here is the start of the project Enjoy!
freakshow12 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 There is one of these right down the street from me! Guy just finished it last spring. It's different that's for sure

sfhess Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Prior to his death in a testing accident, Bruce McLaren was developing a street car called the M6GT. Two or three M6GTs were assembled but further work stopped due to Bruce's passing.
Jeremy Jon Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) It was, but is a different car from the M8B this kit car was based upon, both similar in basic layout though, and creator, Bruce McLaren Here is a photo of the two kit cars Montage (M6GT) and Mirage (M8B) side-by-side Prior to his death in a testing accident, Bruce McLaren was developing a street car called the M6GT.
