Mike Kucaba Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I'm thinking of hooking up a larger external screen to my laptop. Anyone do this? Any problems? Thank you
Exotics_Builder Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I have one on my Windows 8.1. Connected via HDMI, the 24 inch monitor is also connected to my sound system. I use this as an additional monitor and display stuff I want larger and keep other things, like email on the laptop screen. The larger monitor does not have touch screen whereas my laptop does. How difficult depends on operating system you have and whether you want single or dual mode. My older Vista laptop was linked up to the same monitor until I got the new PC, and it acted as a single (replacement) screen. HTH
1930fordpickup Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 The HDMI cable is all you need. Have done this next door on a 52 inch TV. There son has MD and we would watch videos on it.
SSNJim Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 (edited) You can also hook up a desktop keyboard and mouse, and use it sort of like a desktop. You may want/need to make a change in the setup so that the laptop won't shut down or sleep when you close the lid. That's the way I use almost all my laptops, except for this one. There won't be any issues. This one has only an external mouse. I positively hate laptop keyboards and touchpads. Edited March 9, 2014 by SSNJim
Rob Hall Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I have dual 24 inch monitors in my home office (use both w/ my Toshiba Windows 8.1 laptop or my Mac Book Pro laptop --use an HDMI to DVI adaptor) and have an Apple 27 inch Thunderbolt at the office to use w/ my Mac laptop. Both work pretty well.
Mike Kucaba Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 WOW! Thanks guys. Just went thru the hook-up and what a difference!! Monitor came right up and to the forum screen.
High octane Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 How 'bout multiple screens, just like in a sports bar???
Rob Hall Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 How 'bout multiple screens, just like in a sports bar??? They are easy to daisy chain together...I'm doing it w/ 2 monitors, some do it with 3..
Austin T Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Dual monitors all the way. I can have the forum up on the left and have youtube or facebook on the right. Love it so much.
