JollySipper Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I would like to try my hand at a paint job like this. What would be best for me to mask off the panels with? I'm pretty sure I should paint a white base coat, then mask off what I want to stay white, but with what? Would BMF work?
Erik Smith Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 John Goschke built an spectacular T-bird on here - you could try to google search the site and see how he did his paint.
JollySipper Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 Thanks, man.... I saw John's awesome T-Bird! He used photographic tape cut into thin strips to mask his... If that would be my best route, where can you find this tape?
knarf Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 i have used a good quality masking tape cut to the desired width/shape with good results. i use an old table top from a glass top end table that i clean and polish really well, then lay the tape down and cut with a straight edge and hobby knife.

JollySipper Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Thanks, guys! I need all the helpful suggestions I can get! I was browsing around for inspiration for my next build and came across this car.... It's called "May Cause Dangerous".... thought it was awesome
JollySipper Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 Would any of you guys happen to have detail shots of this car? Engine, interior, etc...? The guy who built the 1:1 chronicled the build on the H.A.M.B, but the pictures won't show on my computer....... Thanks, fellas.....
JollySipper Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 I read somewhere that this car was on E Bay at one time. How would I go about finding the listing for it? I'm sure there would be plenty of pics of what I need reference for.... Thank you for any and all help!
Jon Haigwood Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 when I was painting motorcycle tanks, after I laid down the tape or stencil I would put down a light coat of the base paint or clear then spray the top color.this would help prevent bleed thru on the tape edges.I haven't tried this on a model yet but thought I would mention it
BKcustoms Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I'm not sure how much this will help but here's a tutorial I did on paint jobs similar to what you're wanting to do. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=84271
JollySipper Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 Thanks for the responses, guys.... Billy, thats awesome! Thanks for the link.... The real car has lace in the panels, but I won't try that just yet! Baby steps, you know.....
2002p51 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Type the following into a Google image search; "Kirk Jones + May Cause Dangerous" Exactly like that and you'll see plenty of photos. Also if you don't have it, search eBay for issue number 45 of The Rodder's Journal which contains a full feature of the car.

Do a google search on may cause dangerous starliner and you will get tons of pictures and youtube video of the car.
