Arnd Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 (edited) Hallo all As I was thinking about a new projekt an Ford LS 9000 singel axel tracror I started looking for any information and pics I could get. I was thinkig about useing an detroit diesel 8v 71 for that truck. Realistic combination? I got the information that the 9000 serie used a drop frame but I did not found any referece on this. If someone of you has some pics or knows more about a truck like this please tell me more about it. Thanks for your efforts. So long Arnd Edited March 29, 2014 by Arnd
Jim B Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I'm pretty sure the LS Series wasn't offered in the 8000 range, only the 9000 range.
Arnd Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 Sorry my mistake. I changed it. Thanks for that advice. So long Arnd
Aaronw Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Based on notes I have from old brochures, yes, the 8V71 was available in some models of the Ford L series.
BigBad Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) There is one guy with a Detroit 8V71 Ford L on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5IvPgru12c This guy loves his old Ford! The Detroit sound awesome, as it should... As for your build, it's not the same hood length as on the AMT kit, it's a little longer. So you might want to do a little research for a hood that will allow you to fit that big V8. I know a correct resin hood exists that is similar to the one in the video, but don't remember who makes it. You could probably use an LTL hood from P&P resin (available!) But I'm not absolutely sure the LTL used the 8V71 for motivation though. Edited March 31, 2014 by BigBad
Jim B Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 If you want to go resin, Daniel from Plaskit has the LS hood.
Arnd Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 hallo James do you know Danial? Or better said do have a e-mail adress so that I can contact him? I want to try to rework the AMT hood with the front part from Italeri`s Ford Aeromax. I do not know if it works because I do not have jet find a donor hood from Italeri. But the idea with a ready resin hood sounds grate. As for the engine I looked in to some leaflets and the DD was not availebel in the LS serie. so long Arnd
Jim B Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Arnd, I'm not sure the Italeri kit & the AMT kit would match up that easily as they are different scales. You can contact Daniel at plaskit_resin@yahoo.ca. Good luck with your project.
Aaronw Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I expect the two kits would not match up well. I was hoping to use the AMT Louisville with the Italeri LTL to make a daycab LTL. There was probably a 3/16" gap where the hood would meet the cab. Plaskit's LS / LTS hood is very nice as is everything I have bought from him.
