Just for clarity the IPMS contest is usually in November, not December. But of course there web site is usually the best place for information on dates.

Yeah, you are right, my mistake. CRS kicking in again.

I remember going to an IPMS show that was downtown at the Convention Center a few years ago...Gregg was there, there was an MCM booth set up. Though IIRC It was in August.

That was an international IPMS annual convention. It is held once a year in various cities around the world. The one you went to was Phoenix' turn to host the international.

The November event is called Modelzona and is the local chapter's annual contest and swap meet, open to all forms of plastic modeling~ automotive, military, air, sea, armor, combat, figures, sci-fi, gundam, you-name-it.

That's okay, Mark. At least all you have is CRS. Some people have CRCRS. They can't remember they can't remember.

Well, we are here.

Got in Sunday evening. So far all the models are in the enclosed carport, but hope to remedy that very soon. But we need to get all the stuff unpacked for living first.

No hundred degree day yet. Maybe not for a while according to the weather people. But those guys don't have to be right to keep their jobs.

Got a job, start as soon as the background check stuff is done. Lousy pay, but better than nothing. And it goes up after training. If I am not too stupid to be trained that is.

What Tom said!

Welcome to Phoenix! Be sure to come over to DSC10 Saturday. You'll be glad you did!

You'll meet all the movers and shakers of the hobby from six Southwestern states as well as all the locals. We'll be glad to give you a warm welcome to the fold.

Thanks for the welcomes. :D

Definitely plan on being there Saturday. Look for a big fat guy with a short beard and glasses. Jeans and a t shirt. I think I am going to be bringing my best friend with me, he used to build as a kid, but I don't think he has done anything with models since then. But he needs to get out and away from his family for a few hours, and free works for him.

We are at 47th Ave and Olive in Glendale.

Will have to look at the clubs for what day they meet. My job will be second shift, so I can't do anything weekdays. But I get a whole 50 cents more an hour.

..Dang! I'm also a big fat guy with a short beard and glasses in jeans and a t shirt.. Maybe I need to bring my club name tag..

The two biggest model car clubs meet on weekends usually. It's a woikin' man's thaang.

See you tomorrow, Russ.

Well, that describes about 60% of the people who will be there!

We'll see you then, Russ!

I could see having them in the garage but a carport, definitely not a good place for plastic. If the sunlight touches any of the boxes, you'll have warping. Have you considered looking into a small climate controlled storage unit? They can be had as small as a little closet and the cost is not that high. Considering the value of the kits and how hard it would be to lose them to the heat and elements in general, you'll have to decide.

Personally, I would liquidate all my kits before I'd store them outside in Phoenix, H.E. double hockey sticks weather.

Yeah, and we've seen what happened to all of your kits.

Every month . . . ^_^

Well, I am going to have some room in the house. I am figuring at least 75 kits worth for sure. I have 25 of them in already. Now the problem is finding the boxes the others are in. I think they got buried in the carport.

The bedroom that we are making into our craft/hobby room has a nice sized closet, and that will be my model "room". About 25 inches deep and 6 foot long. The shelf in it holds a stack of 7 kits high and probably 10 stacks long. Might have to scrounge for some more closet space in another room for the rest. Or do the condensing a couple of people have mentioned.

Oh, and my mom just told me that I still have another box of kits at my sister's house. Along with a whole bunch of stuff we left when we moved to Ohio 8 years ago. Sigh. These kits have been in a garage the whole 8 years. Should be interesting to see what has happened to them. :(

Been sick this week, probably stress related, so I haven't gotten a whole lot done. Who knew moving cross country, giving up a job, losing a house, etc could cause stress? :o

Thanks,

Russ

For the models that I do not have enough shelf room for, I simply store them in large moving boxes. They can then be accessed pretty easy, moved around pretty easy, and stacked at least three high in most rooms. Each can easily fit more than 25 typical kit boxes if you pack them right, and then box them by category for easier searching later on. This picture just shows the ones I have here in the room, not counting the boxes I have stacked in the closet. My goal at SOME point, is to have massive storage racks like I have seen others have, but those are expensive, and these boxes are around $3 at a U-haul or box store.

Our Future Plans call for a move to Phoenix .

I was forced into selling my entire collection . It was moved into a Storage unit , lock , stock and barrel . A cold storage unit , not Climate control . It sat there over two years . The buyer could not get to it due to distance and travel . I bought it back . He gave up trying to get the proper vehicle to make one trip . About 9 months more I was able to put it in my own space . The Build ups suffered 1 Causality . A pick up now has a Cyclomac Plastic smile overall . the Caster saw it and is saddened as much as I am to view it . This one was underneath by mistake . I have a couple old Cyclomac Promos , it fits right in .. lol .. .

Since I moved into another location in 2000 , my Stash of tobees have been in Cold Storage . This time , all of the buildups are displayed where I live inside . The Resins are indoors also . I fear the Hot / Cold Cycles . All resins pieces and paints etc. too . When I first got back into this Hobby , 1984 I have a routine . Tires removed , until 2006 from the box and sorted / placed in neat rows inside Fishing Tackle Boxes . Since 2006 , placed in Baseball Card Holders taped shut . Returned to the box at that point in time . The Custom Tires are entered into the Stash , neatly stored in the same locations . I did buy TMO kits and these are really hard to fix . The Decals , plucked and placed in Model Surplus boxes . In 2006 , these same went into leftover Ice Cream Boxes of the plastic Variety . I've suffered no losses here . These are indoors too . My Paints / glues , did not survive Cold Storage .

These tips I did glean from being a Model Car Magazine subscriber/reader . I had to purge my Library plus the Kit Boxes in 2004 . I place all of the stash into Zip Lock Gallon Bags . Placed side by side neatly and tight , not packed , all remain undisturbed . Placed into the Home Storage Tubs , stacked three high and easy to get to .. lol.. I did list what is which tub to find what I want to pluck out certain kits . I loose this little spiral notebook constantly . I have tom find it first . Just simply digging through the Tubs is not an Option . I am always open to suggestion . Thanx ..

PS ; I do not deny being Retentive .

We are from the east coast,Philadelphia. My parents decided it was a good idea to retire out west. They choose a old mining down 40 miles from Mexican border. They are back now, missed the family and all. We visited a few times over ten years and if I had to guess what it felt like to live on the sun, it would be Arizona. I am fair skinned and cold blooded, it was brutal. Good people though, my parents have better friends in Arizona in 10 years then they had in 50 years in Philadelphia.
