Psychographic Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 As I like tin boxes of all types, I voted for that. But I would only buy it once, no need to spend the extra money. Now that I think of it, I do have one of the blueprinter and one of the new reissue full color boxes. I also have an original box from an ebay Junkyard lot I bought.
cobraman Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Given a choice I will always pick white plastic. I have never bought any kit in the tin.
Harry P. Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I buy a kit for the parts in the box... not for the box. I would never pay a premium for a "collectible" tin box if the kit inside is the same as what comes in the regular cardboard box, because in my world, once a kit is finished the box goes in the garbage can. But I can't fault the model companies for trying to create a "premium price" version in order to maybe create some interest and some additional profit... that's just good marketing. But as the consumer, I ain't fallin' for it!
bbowser Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Given a choice I will always pick white plastic. I have never bought any kit in the tin. X2. I don't care about the box either. When the kit is done the box goes in the recycling.
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 The Blueprinter versions of this kit I have are in gray plastic, and that's my personal preference. There is also another small difference in content between the Blueprinter and original issue (I'm 98% sure anyway, based on the one's I've opened) that makes it a little more desirable to me. I like the tin box, though I haven't bought one, because I use my old model boxes to keep other in-progress models and parts organized.
pharoah Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I never did like red styrene. I don't really collect boxes either. white reissue for me.

rmvw guy Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Like others have said, the box goes in the trash after I build what's in it. I do prefer white plastic.
High octane Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I'm currently working on the Fiat altered from the "tin version" and after building the dragster as well, I'll use the tin box for storage. This version has colored glass options, tampo printed tires & slicks, and an expanded decal sheet as well.
Greg Myers Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) I'm currently working on the Fiat altered from the "tin version" and after building the dragster as well, I'll use the tin box for storage. This version has colored glass options, tampo printed tires & slicks, and an expanded decal sheet as well. It also has the provision, with an extra tree of parts ( an extra chrome tree in the box) and a few lengths of sprue, to build three cars from the same kit. The Blueprinter version has some humongous M/T tires and wiiiiied wheels to match. I see the "Tin" version got the wide wheels as well. Edited April 3, 2014 by Greg Myers
VW93 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I bought the tin version due to the extras in that issue. I also have a couple of the Blueprinter editions. I still need to pick up one of the reissues for the contents & the box art.I'll probably build the tin version & use the tin for decoration/storage.
jbwelda Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I built the original when I was a kid and also hate that red plastic, which I had forgotten about until I read the above. I also bought the blueprinter version when it came out but never really delved into it, figured it was exactly like the original. but not? I did know it was in the more manageable grey plastic. then I bought the boxed version when it came out, just because, plus it came with extra parts and was in white plastic and that tin just looks totally kool. I also bought selected roth reissues in their tins too...really did not cost much if anything over what the box versions cost, and I think those look great lining the walls. in fact I am kind of surprised at the reaction above from a bunch of people who drool over box art. the DD tin box issue in particular I thought was a bargain and here you have a permanent piece of box art that you can keep spare parts or whatever in. you don't have to "collect" junk to enjoy it...you can use it! jb
keyser Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Bought this issue, molded in white. One of my favorite boxes, and at the time I didn't like drag cars much. Converted me, I've got every issue. Earliest were also molded in grey shiny plastic. My blueprinter is molded in tan, and I've got some molded in black I've acquired over the years. Bought re-issue and tin both. Hooked me on FE dragsters too. Dunno what I do with boxes when built. Probably need to finish some more than 80%. Bought tin after I found out it had more stuff in it. But box neat.
Nova-ss Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I don't get ri of the boxs, but I won't pay extra for a metal tin.if there was more parts or more detailed kit parts then I would but just for a to pay for a metal box....no way! Thanks,Chris
