Belugawrx Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) Back in the 80's I wanted one of these sooo bad I'd be dead by know if wishes came true... Anyways,... I finally found one that didn't kill the bank and won't kill me! Tamiya's 1/12th, 1983!! release First bike build so , just out of box. Back fender in clear as a test Gotta wait for colour to gas out Before clear as it did orange peel the rear fender The Tamiya kit includes enough detail to be presentable,... swapping out the clear plastic filter to something more durable,... Surprising amount of flash, sinks and filing to this kit...being Tamiya and all,.... but older, fast release (represents the '82 Honda)!! Spoke flash ,.... UGGH Anyway,.. having fun Cheers Edited May 19, 2014 by Belugawrx
Belugawrx Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 Got the engine done and installed Frame is clear coated Scratched a new shock reservoir and gusset out of aluminium tube and sheet styrene.
afx Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I have a couple of Tamiya bike kits (motocross and GP). You might be tempting me to build one. Nice work so far.
jeffs396 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Looks GREAT so far Bruce! With different pics it could pass as a 1:1 Love these Tamiya two-stroke motocrossers from the 80s...used to love ridin' them back then too scary FAAAST!!!
Danno Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Neat kit, great bike. Ahhhh, the memories . . . I had one (1:1) for a year or so until some dirtbag stole it from me. Had a great time with it! Loved it! I saw the Adam Henry riding it one day when I was in my old GMC 6cyl stump-pulling knock-around truck. Gave the thief a real thrill when I went off-road with the pickup trying to catch him. I knew I wouldn't be able to catch him, but I was hoping he'd do something stupid like ride into a barbed wire fence because I was chasing him. He didn't and he got away. The bike was later recovered from a river . . . the day before the insurance company was going to total it out as unrecovered. They fixed it (half-a$$ed) and gave it back to me. They never got it right . . . it was never the same . . . and I ended up selling it for too little and never bought another bike. But I had fun while it lasted.
Harry P. Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Got the engine done and installed Frame is clear coated Scratched a new shock reservoir and gusset out of aluminium tube and sheet styrene. That's looking very good.
MADDOG Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 This is gonna be a nice build. I loved dirt bikes in the 80's. This one is taking me back. LOVE IT!
DPNM Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Excellent start. I, too, am an old dirt bike fan. Keep it going.
Belugawrx Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 Ok !!... got the rear end on,.. got a bit of weathering to do yet Not going to muddy it up too much, sort of cleaned after a ride,... Had to move the sending unit from directly behind spark(wire didn't bend nicely) to frame mount,... All the 450 pics I could find show it here,.. Whew,... I scraped the spokes on this rear wheel and ran a thinned Testor's Metallic silver to hide the BLACK plastic in about 2.5 hours Thought about respoking for about...... 1/2 a second ..... Next time tho Thnx for looking QC+C's welcome Cheers
Belugawrx Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 Almost done on this one Had to add a clutch cable ,.. and skid plate,.. Got some decals on,.. Will microset again to get rid of silvering on edges,... A bit more weathering to do to those rims,.. I'm thinking Dullcote I will post more when done Happy modeling Cheers
Belugawrx Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 Oh and thnx Jim, Ira, Art, Tommy and Mike for the comments Cheers
Prince Ital Mike Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Wow, time to hit the track ! Very nice bike, Bruce!
fitforbattle Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Wow, this brings back memories. The first bike I ever ran that didn't involve pedals was an 80-something CR125. It was just me and my best friend, we took off for the woods and didn't come home until sundown. I had a great time.
vettecote Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Great job Bruce! I have a 1/1 CR250R. I've been wanting a model of mine, but can't find it. Awesome job!...Joe
Belugawrx Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 Thnx guys I came across it on KIJIJI and dropped everything to build it!! Great detail in the kit, but had to add,.... of course,.. some things just weren't there, clutch cable, skid plate, etc. I am putting a DG exhaust on it,.. just figuring out the right colour, weathering tech. on it So far ,...Floquil F110104, then Tamiya clear blue, then Tamiya clear red, then Tamiya clear orange,then..... Ok maybe just flat black,.... Nope its gonna be brass Get back to ya later Cheers
Belugawrx Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 This is the instruction's routing for the clutch cable,..... THERE'S NO LENGTH of WIRE or LOCATION at OTHER END!... not a biggy.. Beauty day today,.. so after cutting the grass and pruning the trees ,... I took some outdoors After much brass, blue, orange, red,.. etc. Flat Black, it is ,... I'll try it next time./// Learning curve.... huge, here on this site This was a really smooth build,.. some good fitment,..not too much to add to make it detailed enough,.. Paint mostly Thnx for looking Cheers
