rctruk Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I was told that there is actually an engine in there somewhere
Old Buckaroo Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 What a nightmare ,I sure am glad I retired from working on them. No more easy access or simplicity of the engine.
rctruk Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 I know what you mean. I almost had to look at the manual to locate the dipstick...lol.
rctruk Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 I'm waiting to find out how this all holds up in a construction environment.
rctruk Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 The mechanics are going to school. These new emission systems are a real nightmare. I had to take a class on how to operate it and all the new equipment it has.
Mr mopar Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 nothing like keeping it simple .................................. BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH tree huggers. Where is the black smoke...........LOL
Jim B Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 It's definately a PACCAR (noticed soem PACCAR badging in the first picture), but it looks more like something from Capt. Nemo's submarine!
tbill Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 no engine at all, it's just a mass of wires/sensors/tubing. each wheel has an electric motor to drive the thing. they had to put something under the hood
rctruk Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 looks like a paccar mx13 485 hp in a kw You are correct, but only the 380 horse version. This is the truck...hasn't even hauled a load yet.
Petetrucker07 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 So sad, the days of loud pipes and rollin coal down the highways is almost gone.
Jim B Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 So sad, the days of loud pipes and rollin coal down the highways is almost gone. And that's a bad thing?
scale trucker Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 well at work we got 4 of those paccar engines 485 hp and at 4.5 miles to the gallon compared to my 1990 425 cat at 6.5 you do the math..old is better...
Jim B Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Well, in that case, yes, I'd agree with you on that point.
rctruk Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 Also with the fuel mileage...you have to factor in the stuff for the def system.
Petetrucker07 Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Thats right, i drove an 88 379 pete with a mechanical 3406 with 700 horse, got over 8 mpg, i now drive a '13 386 pete, cummin isx and 500 horse, gettin 4.5, doin the same loads, on the same roads, dont lie to me that these new motors are more fuel efficent, cleaner burning, ok, not fuel efficent. Very aggravating, the maintance and extra cost of the DEF and DPF servicing, makin hard to enjoy driving, constantly forkin out money. Down time, all this is doing is costing the driver, owner , and company money with no change in rates. Ok enough venting for me
tbill Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 who'd of ever thought 'exhaust fluid' would turn into a real thing???
Petetrucker07 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Or spark plugs on a diesel!!! I mean really, i thought they were crazy, my trucks gone through 4 in a year and a half
rctruk Posted May 26, 2014 Author Posted May 26, 2014 I'm sure happy this is a company truck. Grossing 76000 I can only get 3mpg
