Dale W. Verts Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) It really is hard to post pics here with the quality of work ya'll do. But this is the fourth model I've worked on since starting back in the hobby in January. I'm WAY too picky, and have decided to take it easy and build to my skill level and not sweat the details so much. Everything I do I learn from, with some pretty silly mistakes along the way. Anyway, this one is 95% done, but I got back on my wife's bug yesterday and need to finish it first. The Nova needs a reworked hood scoop, water lines, tail lights, etc. This was a horrible kit- the chassis, interior tub, and body were ALL warped to some degree. Instead of breaking out another kit I worked with what I had. That's why you can see some of the inner door panel in the first shot. I haven't give up on it, but right now it is what it is. I AM however thoroughly enjoying myself, and "thanks" to everyone who contributes here. I'm learning. Dale Edited May 8, 2014 by Dale W. Verts
TFchronos Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Very nice work! Looks amazing from my view, keep it up!
Dale W. Verts Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) Thanks guys. While I don't particularly like "weathered" vehicles (although I have TONS of respect for the skill it takes to do them right), I DID kind of give this one a "just got back from the track" look with a dirty wash on the engine that I didn't wipe off. I'm going for the kind of hot rod I like- all the money is in the motor/drivetrain. Paint just adds weight... I also lowered the front some- it set way too "square" for me. This was my first wiring attempt since the sewing-thread days of the mid-1970's. Also my first wash. And interiors suck... Dale Edited May 8, 2014 by Dale W. Verts
cartpix Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I had some failed attempts, trying to pick up, where I left off. Then I built one, straight out of the box. Rattle can paint job, no extra details, other than paint, no plug wires, fuel lines, etc. Then I worked my way up. It's been 6 years, since then, I'm air brushing pearl jobs, scratch building parts, plumbing this, wiring that. Taking those first "baby steps", was the best thing, I did, to get back into this wonderful hobby.
slusher Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Very cool looking build you have going. Us model guys are too hard on ourselves and our work. We all have skill levels and grow at our own rate. Nothing wrong with your build...
Jantrix Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I'm WAY too picky, and have decided to take it easy and build to my skill level and not sweat the details so much. That's a great thought and one I've been an advocate of for many years. This is a good work. A little bare metal foil on the trim and it would have a great authentic feel.
1 bad55 stan Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 That is not ugly Dale, that is cool, just like Rob said a little foil on it,Street Is Neat just like your Nova!
Dale W. Verts Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 Hmmm.. work to my abilities, and you guys want me to try foil! Dale
1 bad55 stan Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Hmmm.. work to my abilities, and you guys want me to try foil! Dale Just a thought Dale,i remember when i first tried it and its not that hard. The difference it makes is rewarding.
PappyD340 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Very cool looking build you have going. Us model guys are too hard on ourselves and our work. We all have skill levels and grow at our own rate. Nothing wrong with your build... I agree with Carl, but the main thing is just have fun with it, you will learn something new on every build and carry that over to the next one, hey Rome wasn't built in one day and neither are modeling skills, hang in there Dale and BTW foiling is not really as hard as it sounds or looks, yes there is a small learing curve and yes you may waste a sheet of foil but hey you won't learn till you try, as NIKE says "Just Do It" that's what I did, now I'm far from being a professional at it but I improve everytime I build one and like Stan said you will love the rewards, anyway I don't see anything wrong with you're Nova, just keep on building them Dale!!
Dale W. Verts Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 Thanks Pappy- you guys make me feel like a teenager (not necessarily a bad thing). A fifty year-old teenager. Dale
