StevenGuthmiller Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Now that the '59 Edsel is in the final stages of construction, It's time to gear up for the next few builds. The '60 Mercury convertible has already been started. Painted basic black, it will have a red & black interior. Looks terrible right now! Been collecting dust for a few weeks, & you know black! The '59 Mercury is another "Jr. Craftsman" kit. Going with a medium metallic green & black on this one. The '60 Edsel will be a medium shade of metallic brown. Not a factory color but I couldn't find a factory color for it I really liked. Also have a '58 Buick Roadmaster I've got pretty close to completion. Just waiting for chrome to come back on that one. That'll give me a good start on the vintage kits I have yet to build. Probably at least a dozen more will bring up the rear. That is, as long as I don't add anymore to that list! Steve
Ramfins59 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Wow Steven, you and I really seem to have the same liking for these 50's land yachts. I'm finishing up a '56 Buick promo and will be starting on a '58 Lincoln as soon as it's done. After that will be a '58 Mercury. So many models... So little time...LOL.
impcon Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Well, I guess that makes three of us then!! I love the late 50's thru early 70's cars but the turn of the decade 50's/60's vehicles are really where it is at. One of my first cars was a 60 Monarch Scepter two door hardtop which was a Mercury Park Lane with some different trim, grille and taillights. It was white with a black and white interior, 430 engine with the dual range automatic. I've been watching for an affordable 60 Mercury hardtop, but so far - no joy. You guys both really do wonders with these simple but really great old models and I love the stock theme builds that you both do. I'm really looking forward to your doing the 60 Mercury, Steve. Thank you Steve and Richard for sharing your builds.
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 Thanks guys! I know the feeling. There seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel as far as getting all of these builds done! But I'll give it the old college try! I usually seem to manage one finished every couple of months. Gary, I actually have a '60 Merc hard top that I started a while back. Had some problems with the paint & it's a multiple coat lacquer paint job. Haven't had the desire to strip it yet. Steve
charlie8575 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 That '59 Park Lane will be interesting to see come together with the color combination. Everything else is up to your usual high standards, Steve. Charlie Larkin
