mnwildpunk Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I was looking up some info and I found this link and on the link was an add from 1963 of a monogram model kit http://books.google.com/books?id=YPRDVugn2SwC&pg=PA54&lpg=PA54&dq=how+to+make+fender+skirts+for+scale+models&source=bl&ots=rpgOMcT_KJ&sig=cvE7v7QxTcImy4dH7AzzIHOptq4&hl=en&sa=X&ei=P72EU8PhJ86uyATnkYDoDQ&ved=0CBYQ6AEwBDgK
Harry P. Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 There are all kinds of cool ads in there... scroll through all the pages.
pharoah Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Wow,that takes me back. At the very bottom, there's an ad for the Schiwinn Varsity 10 speed. I had one of those in 1990. Rode it all the time, great bike. I liked the ad for the Monogram 55 Chevy too. I got one of those for Christmas back then. .
Brett Barrow Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Revell/Pactra Custom Car Contest, Testor's PLA, Hubley, Strombecker... there's several scale modeling ads in there.
mnwildpunk Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 I will do that harry. Now is that kit still around in some form or another.
Brett Barrow Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) I will do that harry. Now is that kit still around in some form or another. Heavily modified into Tom Daniel's Bad Man, then later into a Street Machine with slot mags. Can no longer be built stock. Body has some pretty funky proportions, though, always has, so no big loss. These are two of the coolest (but poorest) kits ever! The Bad Man just had an SSP reissue not that long ago. Edited May 27, 2014 by Brett Barrow
mnwildpunk Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 Thank you for that info. I wish I could go back to 1963 and get that three fishing rod and 411 pcs tackle box kit for $12.95 that looked like a great deal
southpier Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 looked forward to Boy's Life every month so I could make another neckerchief slide.
Lunajammer Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 You know, it's still a good read. I got caught up in more than just the ads. 5 boys in our family growing up in the 50's 60's and 70's so we had many years of Boys Life floating around.
mnwildpunk Posted May 30, 2014 Author Posted May 30, 2014 It still has some good articles to this day my stepson gets it
blunc Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Every five or ten years I dig out my old Car Modeler, Model Car Science and Car Model magazines and visit the past for ideas to try and to read through the readers mail and realize that model building hasn't really changed at all. The technology of building has changed but the builders still complain about most of the same things. I also get to see a few NNL's before they were "nameless".
