This was my 50th B-Day present to myself last week . Picked it up off ebay at a $39.99 BIN price.

Sadly the kit does not have the spoke wheels as shown on the box. Blasted Alcoa's <_< instead.

Anyone know of a good source for spoke wheels ?

I know of an excellent source for the Mack spokes & the square tanks. Check with Daniel at Plaskit Resin. That's where I got the Mack spokes for my R685ST & Cruisliner.

I bought the same kit when it was re issued back in 2003 thinking it was the re issue of the original R685ST with the spoke wheels. Upon opening the box I felt a little deflated to say the least. What was on the cover was not actually in the box. Oh well I still have it along with the issue that has both the spoke and Alcoa wheels(Red truck on box cover). Maybe Round 2 will reissue it again this time with the spoke wheels and square tanks.

Jim - you cant make a reference to such fine trucks without providing pictures. ;)

Sorry about that! I was on my phone When I posted that. Here's the R685ST:

And here's the Cruiseliner:

And here"s the pair of "single stack Macks":

Hope you enjoy them. Oh, happy birthday! :)

Jim - Thank You ! :)

Those are two Fine looking trucks. The R685ST would look good in front of a set of doubles. The Cruiseliner glass is flawless , nice work on both.

I have been accumulating parts to build a Cruiseliner.

Thanks, I'm glad you like them. I don't have a set of doubles to hook to it, so I usually use the external post van.

I sure wish AMT would re-issue their Macks,I have so many projects planned that need the R-Model it's not funny! they are just way too expensive anymore! In my opinion, the R-Model is one of AMT's best kits,i only wish I had stocked up when they were readily available. If anyone needs info on pretty much anything Mack, please feel free to contact me,as I have spent the better part of the last 40 years accumulating Mack Memorabilia,Brochures,Factory tech sheets, pictures, etc. And have driven Macks almost exclusively for the past 35 years!..................................Mark

Jim,where did the Jersey plate and APA decals come from? I was born and raised in South Jersey, and actually worked for APA a short time before they went under, out of the Philadelphia terminal..............................Mark

luckily, I have two more of these kits in my stash, the version with the truck 'drawn' on the box in green.

Mark, the APA logos came from Jerry @ Model Truckin'. As for the New Jersey plate, I got it from either The Plate Shack ( http://www.plateshack.com/ ) or Jim Moini's License Plates ( http://moini.net/ ). I can't remember. PM me your email address, and I'll send you want I have.

The Mack R-model was a really nice kit to build.

The rear suspension is the only thing that is a bit difficult to assemble on the r series and cruise liner. The brake chambers as well on the rear end need modifying as well. Still love the kits though and hope they get reissued again.

so, this is odd, huh?

this kit has spokes and square tanks,

this kit has spokes and alcoas, and comes with both style tanks,

and it would seem that Seans kit has round tanks and alcoas only,

very odd, yes?

The kit that I built was the Steven's International reissue, and that only had the Alcoas & the round tanks.

I worked for a private fleet in the 80's and we gave our NYC freight to APA. Went to the N Bergen terminal all the time. Hell of an operation. I always thought if they hadn't done that western expansion they would've been ok. One of our guys was at the N Bergen terminal one time and this big chauffeur driven Cadillac pulled up in front of his truck. This guy gets out and comes up to his truck. It was the owner of APA and he wanted to be sure his guys were taking care of his customers
