charlie8575 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Lookin' good, Mike. I have to admit that polished-out plastic looks pretty good. Charlie Larkin
Custom Mike Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Pretty Mike, very very pretty! Once the foil is done, this is gonna be one pretty Chevelle!
1 bad55 stan Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 This looks great,and the cragers suit it,nice work...
mrmike Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 Thanks guys! I got the coil and the distributor installed. I ran into a problem with drilling out the distributor due to the way it was molded and I had to created a new base and shaft for it. I just need to add my wires and run them to the heads. This is the master cylinder and I added a couple of brake lines. I need to find something to use as a power brake booster. I sat here this morning looking at the mockup pictures and something seemed to be missing and I couldn't put my finger on it. This afternoon it finally occurred to me what it was...white lettered tires! I used some Shabo Tire Graphics and corrected the situation. More to come...
sak Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) Badass. Ya know..it wouldnt be hard to build a booster. Maybe even reshape a brake drum even. Looking at the pictures again. This kit looks identical to the 1965 chevelle. There should be a booster included. Edited June 30, 2014 by sak
Guest Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Those Cragar wheels are sharp as a tack! You can find a brake booster in any '69 Camaro kit. The master cylinder looks almost identical to the one in the Camaro. One more thing. Your carburetor is mounted sideways. Give it a quarter turn and you'll be good.
mrmike Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 Your carburetor is mounted sideways. Give it a quarter turn and you'll be good. Once again, I've been led astray by the kit instructions! Since I decided to plumb the engine, I removed the carb and will re-install it running North-South instead of the East-West orientation that the instructions call for. It's been raining most of the day, so I decided to stay in and work on the Chevelle. I finished the interior early this afternoon. With the interior done, I went back to working on the engine by adding ignition wires and plumbing the engine. More to come...
charlie8575 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 The interior looks good, Mike. This will be a nice model when it's all done. Charlie Larkin
Bob Ellis Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 This is a really beautiful kit. I made one too when it first came out. How does it compare to the AMT '67 Chevelle?
charlie8575 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 This is a really beautiful kit. I made one too when it first came out. How does it compare to the AMT '67 Chevelle? From what I remember in "The Other Mag" when AMT and Revell issued these at almost exactly the same time.... The Revell Body is much better. Engines are about the same, although the AMT has a little better detailing. The AMT chassis is better overall, although both look good together. Revell's interior builds up easier, but the quality of detail is about the same. The author stated he would use the Revell body over the AMT chassis/running gear and the Revelle wheels on better than the original Michelin tires. I believe he stated he would blend elements of the two interiors for best results. Charlie Larkin
slusher Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Just noticed the white tire letters, very good touch on those...
mrmike Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 Thanks guys! At this point the engine is pretty much complete, save for a few touchups. I've decided to add heater hoses so I drilled a couple of holes based on my research of a stock 396 engine. This picture shows the heater hoses from the firewall and the negative ground wire from the battery. Where does the ground go to on a GM car? To the frame or to the engine? More to come...
my80malibu Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 The ground cable attaches to the engine usually at the second bolt through the intake and sometimes at the front of the cylinder head
mrmike Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Thanks guys! I finally got some gloss black paint, but not just any gloss black paint. I bought a bottle of Alclad II Gloss Black to try it. This is just a couple of light coats. I got my heater hoses hooked up and my ground to the engine block installed. The radiator is set to go in! More to come...
Johnny1973 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 As always Mike are doing a great job on Chevelle.
