afx Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 (edited) Okay so now that I have a resin copy back from HRM I can finally start to build the kit. I want to build the Sonauto entry that won the GT class in 1970 (the 914's very first appearance at Le Mans) and finished 6th overall! The picture is of a cloned car but it will give you an idea of what the car looks like. Edited November 9, 2014 by afx
afx Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 Minimal clean-up and a coat of primer and were building.

Tony N Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Wow Love your 914, I guess I will have to get one soon. I own a full scale 71 914, a former Solo 1 car. I wish It had a six and flares like your model.

afx Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) Here is the completed engine minus the exhaust. Porsche ran twin plugs and twin coils on their race engines, yep 14 wires coming out of the distributor. The Weber Carburetors and the trans-axle come from the HRM trans-kit. All other parts are supplied from the Fujimi kit. The kit I took the engine from was missing the fan. Since the front of the engine cannot be seen on the completed model I substituted some flat stock to replicate the fan. Edited July 30, 2014 by afx
Ken McGuire Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 The resin looks quite good. This is a topic close to my heart as I once had a '73 2.0 litre which I enjoyed. The magazine Classic Porsche says that 914s are becoming very popular now.

Pim Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Great work just one question where could I get one of those transaxles
PatW Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Yes fantastic job JC. This is my kind of Porsche, mid engined. The body is superb, I've been trying to do the same with one of my 3 kits of this car.
afx Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 (edited) Great work just one question where could I get one of those transaxles Thanks Brayden. The transaxle is from a Fujim's Enthusiast Porsche 911 kit. I modified it by shortening it slightly and relocating the mounting bracket to the top of the gearbox. Edited September 29, 2014 by afx

Tompidom Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I love the 914! Been wanting a kit for a long time now, never came across one. The build is looking supurb keep up all you good work!!
om617 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Looks really good. Completely diffrent car with the fat fenders and wheels.
afx Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 Thanks Tommy and I agree that the flairs change the character of the car. I like the car even without the flairs.
