Petetrucker07 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Has anyone built this kit. Is a tough build or just typical snap problems. Any suggestions or heads up
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I absolutely love these kits... Wish I could find more reasonably priced... Getting to be too pricey on ebay... Plus these can be swapped with parts from the 454SS kit, or the Stepside, I was workin on a couple of these... I'm sure not your style, but I love these...
Petetrucker07 Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 Looks good. I do like lowered duallies. Glad to hear these kits are close to the 454ss. I built that kit back in the day, the prices im with ya. All the cool stuff is gettin out of hand and harder to find
Fabrux Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 The "snap" kit is the dually promo, which first came out in 1990 I believe and ran through to 1998. I have a 1994 and a 1998 promo. The snap kit release has the 95-96 style dash.
Longbox55 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 They go together without any issues. Most of the cab parts from any of the AMT C1500 kits are a direct swap, and the cabs will swap with the beds. This one isn't quite done yet, I'm in the process of putting a partially detailed underhood in it, top half of the engine, master cylinder, etc. I'm leaving the frame as is. All the parts from the 454SS kit fit right in.
Petetrucker07 Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 Guess i need to get both kits. Its been awhile since ive built a pick up.
Amtronic Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 AMT has a snap version kit that has a raised cowl hood, and GMC grille. It interchanges perfectly with any of the snap kits or glue kits.
disabled modeler Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I have built a few of them....easy and good fit of parts makes a great looking 90s Truck.
Amtronic Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 A snap kit, has the front bumper from the USA-1 monster truck. Another snap kit, with the camper trailer made into a slide-in camper. The cab step stirrups are from the AMT KW sleeper. Snap kit kitbashed with the ramp truck body. Another kitbash with ramp truck body. z
Petetrucker07 Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 Those teaaly good, i have an idea for this build, im glad this kit is good to build and reletively essy to get ahold of.
mikemodeler Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 The Modelhaus offers a replacement chassis for this kit that allows you to use the engine and suspension pieces from an AMT kit (SS454 is the most likely given it's big engine) to build this into a fully detailed model. It is shown in their catalog (2013) for $12.00 and for another $2.00 they also offer mirrors for the kit. These kits do build up easily and are very accurate in their appearance. It would be a nice kit to have back on the shelf.
Petetrucker07 Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 Right on, thanks for the info on the chassis. How accurate are the wheels, should i replace the wheels
Fabrux Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Any replacement wheels you find are going to be based on the promo wheels. They're pretty good.
SlotDaddy1963 Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 BTW, the C1500 snap-kit includes a windowless camper shell which fits the dually bed pefectly
ranma Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Funny, I bought four of the promo's for a whole $10.00 each. Two red two green Now I only have a red one left, but I'm keeping it! we have a farm toy show in Van Wert ohio every September. That's where I bought mine , The fella had two cases of them . Most likely he will be at the show again this year , and will be selling them again! Anyone who lives in the quad state area could get to Van Wert Ohio for this show! they have lost of neat things to see and buy.
Petetrucker07 Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 Wish tere was more model shows out here in southern cali. Theres only 1 or 2 shows, 1 good hobby shop. Its makes it hard to do more cool stuff when its hard to just go to the LHS and get it
