Fabrux Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 A little while back I picked up about six kits in various stages of completion from a local thrift shop. The build quality on these kits is really quite good, with the ones furthest along having the engines plumbed and heater hoses added and what not. One of them is this 1964 Mercury Marauder. It is a 1995 reissue of the original customizing kit and the body is quite far along with customization. The "suspension" is lowered and it looks pretty neat. The quandry I'm having is: do I scrap it all and start fresh with my own ideas or finish what the original builder had intended? The blending of the front and rear panels is quite good but I can see a little bit of the body work evident. Also, the hood has some orange peel but overall the paint is pretty good.

John Goschke Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 This kit is common enough that it would probably be easier to start fresh with a new one if you want to build it to suit your taste than to undo what's been done to this one. Might be kind of cool to finish it as is. Just polish out out the paint and foil it up. The back isn't bad if you can live with the fact that it looks like he filled in the decklid panel line. The front's a little crazy with that "lantern jaw" lower pan. Maybe something other than the '53 Ford pickup grill/headlight combo would help.
