FineModelCars Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 My actual project is an english roadster MGA. It's a scratch built, single piece. I build it for my friend Juergen from south Germany. Here's his real classic roadster. The design was drawn by CAD 3D:
FineModelCars Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 After being drawn, the parts were printed by rapid prototyping. Finished printed parts:
FineModelCars Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 The body parts were printed separately like the original.
brassbuilder Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 And you printed that with a MakerBot of all things?
thinkbig Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Another large project of a great car. Will stay tuned on this one! Rapid prototyping is now offering the possibilities, many of us just dreamed about in former years. Your courage to go on a built like this is remarkable.Thank you for sharing it.
jbwelda Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 all i can say is WOW! how much surfacing are you having to do on body panels? are they very pebbly to begin with? jb
FineModelCars Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 The whole car was printed with the Maker Bot. The surface has to be cleaned and finished. Next step is to filler and prepare for the paint. It is a new interesting project, my first full size scratch built project.
Mike Kucaba Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 I don't know about anyone else, but the top item on my list of what to buy when I hit the Lottery just changed big time. Of course I'll have to learn how to use a computer
Paul H Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Fantastic!!! I will be following this with great interest, especially since my uncle has a '59 MGA, that I drive regularly. If it is of any help, all the factory workshop manuals, parts books etc can be downloaded from here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/literature/lt3.htm Also, out of interest, what programme did you use to create the initial CAD model?
FineModelCars Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 Hi Paul, Thank for the Information. The CAD is Rhino!
Greg Myers Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Truly amazing ! I drove a '58 roadster in college, mid sixty's. Most fun car I've owned. Worked on it the most too.
pharoah Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 That is truly amazing! Anything is possible. I've seen some 1/8th 55 Chevy bodies for sale recently.
Paul H Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Hi Paul, Thank for the Information. The CAD is Rhino! Ah - thought it might be Solidworks. I haven't used Rhino for years. Perhaps you should sell the CAD model to Revell AG, so they can do a 1:24 version!!
Greg Myers Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) I'm in.http://www.britishv8.org/mg/stevewayne.htm Edited July 22, 2014 by Greg Myers
