philo426 Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I am using the MPC Connie Kalita Bounty Hunter kit to make a fictional funny car i deem "Mach 1 Madness$!
philo426 Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) I was really impressed that MPC could make a tool that produced the frame in one piece.I expected to have to the make it from 4 pieces which could have caused alignment issues. Edited July 23, 2014 by philo426
DynoMight Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Good job on the engine and interior, looks really cool.
philo426 Posted July 26, 2014 Author Posted July 26, 2014 The chrome front axle, tie rod and radius rods are structural components so I used 2 part epoxy to ensure strength.
NJJeff Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 These MPC kits build up nicely and have a great stance. You've got a killer build going Phillip!
philo426 Posted July 27, 2014 Author Posted July 27, 2014 Thanks! Put on the wheels and tires.Looks good!
philo426 Posted July 27, 2014 Author Posted July 27, 2014 Heads up modelers! The instructions have you install the interior tub prior to installing the engine(I foolishly believed them!)I had to grind down the tranny and portions of the rear engine block to allow the engine to be installed in the proper position.Bummer!(I had to repaint the damaged portions of the engine block and tranny. To make myself feel better,I mocked up the body to the chassis.Looks pretty sweet!
Modlbldr Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Looks great! I have this body and I think I have that frame. Unfortunately I think that's all I have. I'd like to find some parts to build a fictional one myself. Thanks for the tip on the body and engine sequence. I will be watching this one. Later-
philo426 Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) Update guys! I had to move the engine forward so that the body would fit properly.I also had to put on a driveshaft extension. Builders of this kit should verify the correct engine position before cementing it in place! Edited July 28, 2014 by philo426
slusher Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Good to know. I have never built this kit but its not good when the instructions cause problems...
philo426 Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 Installed the plug wires and side pipes. The mini clamps prevent the pipes from sagging to the ground while the epoxy sets.
philo426 Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 Yep!I just wonder about the engine placement.
philo426 Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 The kit supplied steering rod would not work.I bent a piece of brass wire to fit.Much better!Perhaps I should have installed the rod before the headers/sidepipes. The chassis is now complete.
