ChrisPflug Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 This thread is inspiring me to bring out some of my MPC "rebuilders" when I'm back home again
Mopar - D Posted August 8, 2014 Author Posted August 8, 2014 Back on the bench have been working on the body getting the panel lines cleaned up and the front and back lower valances installed. Also started priming the body. Painted the engine and received my PE parts. Should have more progress later tonight and tomorrow morning. I'm going with a black shaker and rear deck spoiler on this one.
slusher Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Got it in primer. Looking forward to your progress Dan..
dragzz Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 its looking real good now that u have in primer cant wait to see more
66belair Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Mopar had some intresting model and trim options on their muscle cars. This looks like an intresting project, keep up the great work.
Mopar - D Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Thanks for the support was able to get some color sprayed on this morning.
Bob Ellis Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I have to admit, that resin SE body looks pretty nice
Sport Suburban Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Looking really good. One small suggestion, sand off the hood pins from the hood and use the photo etch ones. The ones on the hood are in the wrong spot. They should be in the lower section closer to the fender right next to were they are now. That has always bothered me about that hood. That and the fact that the shaker is missing the grills.
DeeCee Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 This is coming along very nicely, i don't blame you for going with the resin body, ( and i hate using resin), but the body supplied is a dogs breakfast with the separate roof. Great work mate.
Mopar - D Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 Thanks for the comments!! Raoul - thanks for pointing out the hood pins I had missed that detail but now I'm going to have to repaint the hood. I want to add cables to the hood pins but not sure what to use. I'm thinking maybe some thread painted silver? Here's some morning progress pictures of the chassis and tail lights. Here are the seats I'm going to see how they look with the white and black but may change them to black.
slusher Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Lots of progress Dan, everything is looking great...
ChrisPflug Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Hmm- I'd be tempted to do the opposite- keep the burnt orange interior and change the body color to black
Mopar - D Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 I made some progress on removing the hood pins and did some test fitting and installed the front emblems on the grill.
Bob Ellis Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 That resin roof looks great particularly the part near the windshield. The kit roof is really awful.
Mopar - D Posted August 11, 2014 Author Posted August 11, 2014 Bob I agree the first time I built this kit I made It a convertible because the top just didn't look right
om617 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Nice progress. Bet it will be a beauty with the vinylroof and PE parts.
Mopar - D Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Not much progress this weekend had the granddaughters over. Sanded down color coat now it's ready for a second coat. Also getting the engine ready for some wires.
Mopar - D Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Sprayed the second coat of white and started wiring and plumbing the engine. Also painted the Shaker and rear spoiler.
jaydar Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 You did a great job on the seats. A 1972 318 was my first new car. Joe
jaydar Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Bob I agree the first time I built this kit I made It a convertible because the top just didn't look right Very nice!!! Where did you get the boot? Joe.
