Faust Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) Well, since it’s the 50th anniversary of the Mustang this year, I got motivated to pull a ‘Stang out of the stash and have a go at it! Of course, I decided to pick the weirdest one I had; no ’68 Shelbys or ‘80s 5.0L cars would fill the bill. I wanted to do a Mustang that most people seem to have forgotten about. Clearly, the oft-derided SVO was a perfect candidate! I’d picked up the Monogram 1/24 kit a couple of years ago, and in researching it, I’d found that it didn’t come in many colours. However, I also stumbled across a couple in dark green. Doing more research, I found that this colour was for the Hertz rent-a-car ones only. I was immediately drawn to this rare version of a fairly obscure car, and, well, the rest is history! Check out my 4E Dark Sage SVO and tell me what you think! http://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/model-kits/cars/monogram-124-1985-5-mustang-svo-hertz-4e-special/ Edited August 13, 2014 by Faust
DynoMight Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Crazy that only 2 of those were made with leather interiors and Dark Sage.
Rob Hall Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Sharp build..love that color, saw an '85-86 LX 5.0 notchback in that color once years ago...
Harry P. Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Very nicely done! The engine detail is especially impressive.
MikeBoyle Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Excellent build of one of my favorite cars from the '80's.
Faust Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 Wow, thanks guys! I'm glad everybody likes it. I personally have always thought the SVOs were pretty cool. They were very different from everything else (at the time), mind you, but pretty cool nonetheless. I had a little pull-back-action toy of one years ago; it was actually 4wd! Went like scoot! Thanks for the compliments on the build and detailing. I did what I could, but some of the detailing does leave room for even further improvement. I wonder if the MPC SVO is any better? I have one, but I'd started this when I picked it up. Hmmm...
Jaguar man 21 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Very nice I never even knew there were dark green svo mustangs
Faust Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 It's a nice colour; I wish it had been available more readily! I don't know what's with Ford and their greens; the SVO Plus was the only SVO you could get in green, too, in 1987 or '89 or whenever they were offered. The dark sage really seems to channel the whole "Bullit" thing, but I've never seen it mentioned as such. With grey Torquethrust wheels, though, it would be an interesting take on an update, don't you think? Does anyone know if the 4E Dark Sage was used on any other Fords in this era, or is it totally unique to the SVOs?
freakshow12 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 It was offered on other mustangs in the same years. Not too common there either
Faust Posted November 2, 2014 Author Posted November 2, 2014 Okay, that's good to know. I don't know if I've ever seen one of the early/mid '80s Mustangs in that green. Ford has a thing with greens, it seems, since there was the one dark green (Dark Jade?) available on the Taurus SHO Plus cars the one year as an exclusive colour. It was then available on all SHOs (maybe all Tauruses) the next, but for the one year it was very limited. So you could get a normal 5.0 in this 4E then, eh? That would make a cool looking pair! Does anyone know when they discontinued offering that colour?
Maxicoop Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Fantastic build !!!! and very informitive !!!
CJ1971 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Crazy that only 2 of those were made with leather interiors and Dark Sage. I wouldn't say it's crazy... Boring car, boring colour & boring interior colour... Some people ( back then ) actually had taste... Maybe that's why only 2 came in this particular combination...
Platerpants Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 never liked the mustang 2s or the fox bodies but this looks nice.
bigbluesd Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Looks great Adam, I always enjoy your writeups.
