Managed to pick one up at the local Hobby Lobby as well. Got to love the 40% coupon! Now I just have to figure out what to do with it. :) I was thinking of maybe a 288 or a 289.

What glue does it use? I have not seen that and was just there tonight. Did get some nice small baggies to put small parts in. Many different sizes.

I've bought three Peterbilt 359 little window kits and two of the Ford race car hauler kits from there in the past two weeks!

I love the 40% off, I got a testors air brush set for right around $16.00, now I just need to learn how to use it.

with the exception of having the grumbly old owner behind the counter who has everything in the hobby for the past 50 years memorized, I can't think of anything negative about HL shopping. the one I frequent is expanding their wares weekly. great selection of kits, paints, & tools.

as consumers, we've become so fickle and expectant of unlimited choices (of everything) that there's almost indignation when we have our selection limited to 2 or 3 items. I don't mean we need to accept everything HL serves, but let's use them for what they are so the can grow, too.

I doubt we'll never single source our hobby needs, but we do need good suppliers.

the one I frequent doesn't have the re-issued cali-hauler.....yet. I did pick up a 1/16 mustang kit last week though [that was one of the 'new' kits they had on the shelf]

and ya. I love the coupon as well.

it will take any glue as far as I know, because its air tight, and the cap has a rod made into it that goes back into the "needle" of the bottle so there's no clogging, assuming you don't leave the cap off! I use the extreme power CA thick, but I haven't tried the thin one yet.

The one in DeWitt doesn't have the California Hauler because I got to it first. :D Hopefully they will be getting more. I do know that Walt's in Camillus is supposed to be getting some more in soon.

The HL 40% off coupon is great, saves quite a bit on paint and supplies also.

I discovered something at HL during my last visit there last week.

If you look at the restock tags on the shelf you may notice their stock level is set at one piece. That is set by HL corporate.

I tracked down the person that handles the model section and the crafts. I suggested to her that she may want to increase the stock levels on some of the kits such as the new '57 Chevy convertible and the soon to be released Revell '67 Camaro. She appreciated the input and said she can add to the minimum stock levels.

You may want to do the same at your local HL.

Also the shelves are restocked at my HL on Tuesdays, so you may want to check when your HL restocks.

If it's not on the shelf on their restock day you may need to ask if they have it in the storeroom.

Another tip is that if you go in with a 40% off coupon and the kit/item you want is not in stock they can special order it for you. Just find the person that handles the model/craft section. They will honor the coupon as a rain check

I'm not sure how long they will hold the item for you..

How would you guys rate HL against Michaels for our stuff in general?

The closest HL to me is not crazy far (30 min or so... Macedonia, OH and I typically have no reason to head that direction) while I've got 3 Michaels within 15min (closest one being 5min away).

I've never been in a HL but will make the drive if worthwhile.

I also have a Hobby Town USA about 15min away so I'm lucky in that regard, but the 2 aforementioned stores with their 40% coupons are hard to beat. I even pull the coupons up on my phone when all I'm buying are little Testors bottles lol.

HobbyTowns prices are too high even with a coupon! Michaels is ok but they don't stock truck kits very often. Hobby Lobby is your best bet! They stock like 6 different truck kits and always have a 40% off coupon! Sometimes they have a 50% off coupon!

Gordon, I'm not sure if it's a HL corporate policy about rain checks but my local HL in Mooresville, NC does it. I only stop in there if I'm visiting friends in the area as it's 70 miles round trip.

I have one a little closer, it's only 48 miles round trip.
