I only use the iPad for tunes when I'm not at home.

Then, I'm using my stereo.

On it I've got a CD changer, two tape decks, a reel-to-reel deck, and a record player. I'm looking to find an eight-track deck just for the heck of it.

Just got this record today, as a side note.

What do you guys use?

For casual listening, my computer and youtube.

For "serious" listening: old school... the stereo system I carefully put together many years ago while in college (and spent a ton of $$$ on!), and I still have... Sansui TU9900 analog tuner, Crown amp and preamp, Denon DP 60L turntable, and Dahlquist DQ10 speakers. To play CDs I have a Pioneer laser disk player (it also plays CDs).

I also have a "secondary" stereo system that is basically used as my TV surround sound system. I play the TV through that system, which has an Aiwa receiver/control center, a modern CD/DVD player (so I can play CDs on that system, too)... but the speakers are not the Dahlquists, they are a different set of speakers (a combination of Sony and KLH) that are mounted around the room near the ceiling for the TV surround sound.

I have a real nice Onkyo surround system with 15" Cerwin Vega floor speakers for "listening" to music. I have cds but i input them into itunes. I just hook up the ol' iphone to my system when im home and shake the neighbors windows.

In all, I've only spent about $100 bucks on everything. The turntable, not pictured, was just an Optimus one from Goodwill. The amp, from Dad. Tape decks? Same. CD player came from 'Will as well. My last amp, a JVC, came from the dump. I replaced all the bulbs, caps, and fuses, along with three of the control pots. That's part of the fun, making stuff work.

I used to be a total stereo geek in college. I subscribed to Stereo Review, I did a ton of research, and I put together the best possible system that I could afford. And all these years later, that same system is still here and still sounds great. Man, I really got my money's worth out of those components! In all these years the only "fix" I've had to get done was re-foaming the cones on the Dahlquists, because the foam had become brittle and cracked over the years.

These days either FM radio, or tunes from my computer (I think I have about 1700 songs loaded up), or CDs I make from my computer.

I still have quite a few cassettes and sometimes use them in a Walkman while mowing the lawn, or in my old car.

I got a USB turntable for Christmas a couple years ago, and used it to put a lot of my old albums on the computer. That's a great thing for some obscure old albums that aren't available in any other format.

When im in my car or the big truck, i listen to sirius/xm, or my iphone. I havent listened to terestial radio in 10 years. I cant imagine how much of an hour is commercials, it was too much 10 years ago, its probably out of control now, just a guess.

Around here, count on about 10min/hr. for commercials. I use radio as background music for doing homework, drawing, or looking for stuff. I usually just hang out and listen to CDs or records.

I've found that an LP is a good way to find obscure songs by an artist. Like I bought an Alic Cooper record just because it had School's Out on it. I ended up forgetting to stop the platter after that was over and found some great songs.

Crutchfields was like Playboy to you then. LOL. I recently picked up a set of Cerwin Vega AT-8s for a steal, just need refoaming, the kit is only 30 bucks. Those will sound nice in the garage when workin on the car and patio when BBQing. Ive got an old "100 lbs" Marantz 4270 for the garage

In the car usually the local radio station and then the cd player when I don't have to worry about traffic. At home it's either YouTube on the computer or cd's on a little RCA stereo in the house or a little Panasonic boom box in the shop.

I hardly ever listen to music. Never in the car, I don't drive much anymore since I am retired and I like to listen to the sounds the car makes. I turn on the TV occasionally to sirius radio 1950's music while I paint. I am totally out of it when it comes to music. I don't even know the names of artists anymore. Sometimes quiet is nice.

I have a Bose radio at home with two modern country music stations, one "contemporary" station, and two classic rock stations loaded up on preset. I keep the remote handy and I hardly ever have to hear a commercial--or, for that matter, a song I don't like. B)

3 mornings a week its Howard Stern, the live show then the after show, the after show is 1 hour 5 days a week. I listen to Blue Collar comedy, the modern hard rock channel, the 80s rock channel, monday afternoon they have Eddie Trunk on live. The 80s metal channel, Classic Rewind, different types of cassette era music, and the 90s rock channel. I dont know what id do without my satellite radio in the truck, theres a lot "empty" air in the middle of nowhere.

Like most , I watch videos on YouTube ( I especially enjoy vintage footage ) ; but unlike most , I don't have an iPod , MP3 , etc.

The sound unit in my '13 Civic is quite good (although , I wish that it was equipped with a 5-8 disc changer ...) . Even with the car's windows up , every-one can hear when I'm blasting Iggy & The Stooges 'Raw Power' !

Conversely , I rather enjoy the monaural mix of Pink Floyd 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn' . Its sound quality easily surpasses the stereo mix , with one exception : 'Interstellar Overdrive' ! Any-one who's familiar with that spacey instrumental will know what I'm talking about ; the whirlling , swooshing outro of that far-out tune is 'missing' from the Mono Mix . Oh , well .

At one time I had every Black Sabbath album from 1970-1975 on 'Quad' !

Them old 100 lbs stereos really sound good. The heavier the receiver, the better the sound. My Marantz sounds better than the Onkyo in the house. I have small Nakamichi that weighs around 20 lbs, i was surprised when i picked it up. It needs the audio out fixed, i was told it sounds amazing for a small package. Its a tuner with 1 aux.

Yea, Quad didn't really last that long. One of the nice parts about the 949 is that it had a multi-pin plug in the back that you could turn over and drop the quad and double the output in stereo. Every once in awhile when the kids next door are getting a little loud, I pull the speakers down(big honkin Kenwoods) put them in the window and get out the Royal Scotts Dragoons and let blast Amazing grace in full glorious bagpipes. Shuts the little buggers right up! B)

I've got a 1979/80 vintage Technics system with Klipsch speakers, all free from a friend. A turntable and cassette deck came too, they're just not in the pic. Later the g/f donated a pair of sansui speakers. I live in a 1300 sq ft home, and this things too loud!

When I lived in a house and had the room all kinds of separate stereo for me. Bought a pair of Bose 901's in 1972 and had them all the way thru 2008. Sold them and most all of the equipt, AND my albums, but they went to friends and other audiophiles so I feel good. I did hang on to two PL 600's (turntables) but haven't used them. Now that I live in cardboard box I listen to an old nine transistor radio. AM only.

Jest kidding I have a Bose radio  and NO television!!!! :P
