Guest Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I watched an episode of Top Gear and they referred to the Miata as the "man purse" on wheels. I thought that was funny as all get out! If I were considering a Mazda, the Miata would be at the bottom of the list. The new one is a big improvement IMO.
Matt Bacon Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I'd love to get one of these: http://www.bbrgti.com/product_details.php?id=11676 Serious sports car for less than £25K... bestest, M.
Greg Myers Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I can see that too. I also see a little of the "Sucker Fish" that Miles mentioned. Looks like one that just woke up! I will admit, sometimes it looks like they're trying a little too hard in the styling department. Simplicity goes a long way! Steve
maltsr Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I have a 1998 MX5 sitting in my garage, which it shared with a 1966 Mustang coupe until recently. I'm not sure about the 'chick's car' tag, most MX5's around here are driven by middle age men, and I fit that demograhic! I've had the MX5 for seven years now, it's a great driver.
Nova-ss Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 It looks ok to me.I understand and see the influence s from the other cars mentioned. But to me the miata has always been about the driving experience. ...just fun!!.not looks. But even big powered car's are to me about the fun driving it....why own a car for looks.driving is the fun part any ways.
maltsr Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Also, it irks me when people bemoan modern styling (maybe I should post this in that other thread). Similar thing happened regarding the new Mustang, with comments suggesting 'it's not what a Mustang should look like' and 'no different to other Fords because of the grill'. Styling is an evolutionary process, and like it or not, we are in the 2015 model year. It's the natural order of things to evolve, otherwise the '40 Ford, '57 Chevy, '63 Corvette, first gen Mustang etc. would never have come to fruition and we would still be buying cars that look like this: Hmmm, maybe the new MX5 would be better with brass carriage lamps rather than hi-tech modern lighting systems.
sjordan2 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I think the styling is much improved, with a more aggressive grille that gets rid of the cartoon Disney-style "smile" from the "Cars" movies that has plagued recent Mazdas. I like the rest of it, too.
Nova-ss Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Yeah...this is not a "chick's" car... Wow!! That blk miata is pretty tough looking. ..great picture ...or this...

People will complain about anything. Usually the people that complain and moan the most are the ones who won't even be buying them in the first place.
StevenGuthmiller Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Ouch! Someone get this one to the hospital! It obviously needs antibiotics! Steve
rmvw guy Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I like it a lot but, unfortunately will never buy one on my tight budget. I have always thought of the Miata as a modern day version of a MGB. My wife has a last year production '80 1/2 MGB, I would trade it! There have always been new car styles I hate and they eventually grow on me, sometimes anyway.
Deano Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 People will complain about anything. Usually the people that complain and moan the most are the ones who won't even be buying them in the first place. True, how true. My biggest complaint about new cars is that they cost way more than I can possibly afford.

I thought there was no 1998 model?
maltsr Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I thought there was no 1998 model? It was registered in Japan in September 1998 - so technically a 1999 model, but production started early 1998.
espo Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Always thought the Miata would be a fun car to have. My problem is I'm 6'2'' and my legs don't fit and I have to look over the windshield. This was years ago and my needs have changed. I think if you look at the new design it is more like the direction that the new and currant cars are designed, and I'm sure they will sell all of them they can build.
