I am currently building a Fujimi Toyota S800.

The kit has a full detail engine and trunk area. The 1:1 car has external hinges on it that are chrome which I would like to replicate but am having a hard time figuring out how. Could use your help....thanks for letting me pick your brains!

This is the kit........

Its going to be tough. How about faking and doing the normal loop hinges and leaving the engraved on the body.

I did think about doing just that Bob. The kit hinges are chrome parts that you cement on after painting the body, but I am planning on making this car a vintage race car so the hinges COULD get painted (if needed but probably not.)

shape a strip of styrene to the profile of the hinge. slice them baloney style, but get twice as many as you need hinges. then cut halves but with enough past the pivot point to shape the hinge knuckle. then in plan view, cut male & female joints (think tongue & groove joint) and slip the pairs together. then drill each pair for a pin (brass rod .010" - ???). assemble, test operate, and then do final shaping keeping the halves paired so you know they'll work after install.

might want to make them a little oversize and shape down in elevation, plan, & section after they're together and consider some type (.010" again?) of mechanical attachment to the body & operating panel for strength in addition to glue.
