Sometime in the last month or so I came across a thread about Pegasus' new Sovereign wheels. Many were happy to have them as an option, but a few pointed out that they weren't the best representations of the 1:1 wheel because the offset was too deep for the tires they'd typically be used in, and without modification they could only be used with the tires Pegasus provided.

One enterprising member had taken it upon himself to correct the offset as well as reduce the outer diameter so they'd fit the average MPC/AMT tire opening. He posted some before and after pics in the thread, and the changes he made were a vast improvement over the original, but he stated that the modifications were a PITA to do.

I did the search following the protocols in the Questions section, but I can't find this thread. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

That's B.S. They will fit the Revell big and little Good Year Sports Car Specials easily. I've used them on two different builds. I'm sure they will also fit other tires.

They are the right offset for traditional full size low riders like Impalas, Galaxies, etc, but a bit too deep for compacts like Falcons, Corvairs, and the like. I bought two sets and I like them.

Cragars and the likes were cool, but the real goods were the Torque Thrusts by American Racing. But when Cragar finally released a 17" version of the SS, with larger diameter spokes rather than just bigger hoops, I was VERY happy....until I saw the price.

The ones that you refer to as the Pro touring size are probably the Pegasus Chrome or Gold T's.

They're available in 2 sizes, roughly 17" and the others are probably 20 or 22 inch. The Chrome/Gold T's are modeled after the Torque Thrust II from American Racing.

Growin up (car wise) in the early sixties in Tucson Arizona the big deal was "Chrome Reversed Rims" anything, steel, spoked or otherwise the deeper the better, front and back.

I agree with Mike that the Sovereign's are right for what they were intended to be used for. No, they won't work as fronts for a gasser or hot rod etc. But they kill on a full size old school low rider. I've been meaning to buy a set of the Sovereigns and the four bar Lancers. But, I'm still geeking on the chrome reverse wheels with spider caps. I love those wheels and have them on three builds already.
