Another out of the box build.

It has flocked carpet and the colour is original Jaguar Gun Metal Grey. The model is patterned after a real Jag MKII I recently restored.

The long term plan is to build five of them, all in original colours. Then build a Sixties English car tansporter towed by a Bedord S Type I have in resin. I'm only afraid I won't live that long...

Nice paint, and that dash looks fantastic. Leather looks like it could be dulled down a bit.

i dunno; once it's hidden inside what's supposed to be a brand new car it may look more correct. i tend to lighten interior colors for that reason, low light inside the body to show them off. that woodgrain is excellent BTW....

Thanks for the kind words.

The interior isn't really that shiny. It only appears that way on the photo.

The woodgrain is included in the kit - as decals! It fits perfectly. Tamiya, you know.

Tamiya is so good, even I can build proper models from their kits.

another sweet car and another sweet kit! i built the race version a number of years ago and it goes together like a dream! mine is more or less the same color, testors anthracite gray i believe it was. great concept on the series of cars too!

have you built the revell germany XK-SS? a bit more challenging but a great kit too.

Thank you.

I do have the Revell AG XK-SS. I also have an old Lindberg D-Type - and a plan in my mind...

The problem is, I won't live long enough to do all this.

Very nice paintwork, i have this kit to build myself, still not decided what colour to paint it.

Here is a link:

http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/jagua...cifications.htm

that contains a table with the intitially available colour/interior combinations for the MKII.

Interestingly, 'neutral' or tan leather was not available, neither was black.

If I remember right, that same table is included in the instructions of the Tamiya kit.

Towards the late Sixties, there were a few more colours available, amongst others a rather smashing swimming pool turquise and a rather revolting bronze. Also, Jaguar always had a quite liberal policy regarding special orders.

Have they updated this kit? I had to buy a Fujimi decal sheet to finish the dash and door cappings but that was about 10 years back(fist issue?)

The chrome was an almost silk matt finish but still looked ok

I painted my Jag with an Ivory(cream) rattle can, trim was very tricky to apply without getting glue everywhere

A nice link with plenty of info here, though I dont think whitewall tyres suit this car, maybe very narowbands.

Thanks, J

Hmmm. I have five of them and all were aquired pretty immediately when they initially became available, which must be the better part of twenty years ago, if memory serves right. All my kits contain woodgrain decals and a sheet of red carpet material, which I don't use though. I found it extremely easy and rewarding to attach the self-adhesive metal trim, but I did it before I applied the clearcoat. The chrome in all my kits is as shiny as can be. The way things are usually going nowadays, my guess is that you have the 'updated' version. New, improved. For your convenience.

And I agree with you 100%: Whitewalls do not belong on this car. Not even narrow bands. A MKII must have the original Dunlops, no substitute. The ones that come with the kit are little jewels.

Thanks for the link, i also have a couple of good books on the MK2.

I think the "Racing" version of the Tamiya MK2 had slightly duller chrome .....

I bought/build mine when it was a brand-new kit, and my chrome was not as bright as it could be, it's sort of between satin chrome and bright. About what "perfect" Alclad looks like.

Jag5-vi.jpg

The self-adhesive chrome was also a problem. I couldn't get the thin chrome strips to stay down, so I cut pieces of BMF to replicate the thin side chrome. Nice kit overall. I painted the wood dash/door panels w/my own home-brew concoction which I felt looked better than the decals.

Sweet lookin' Jag! Especially nice work with the interior upholostry.

I've got this kit in my stash as well, and plan to do it in British Racing Green from a Tamiya TS rattle can, though this will probably have to wait until I get up the courage to decant the paint for use with my airbrush. :(

Again, very nice-looking build! I look forward to seeing your continued progress.

Wow, that's one nice cat you built yourself there, sir.

I can only dream to achieve this build quality of your's.

For some odd reason I wasn't plagued with any of the shortcomings reported in this thread. I bought them as soon as they became available the first time around, which I believe was in the late Eighties. The chrome on all of mine is perfect. This is the first one of the batch I have that is being built.

Despite maturing in honour for almost two decades, the thin self adhesive chrome moldings in this example posed no problems whatsoever, they almost fell into place. I did use the decals for the woodgrain, but there is no clearcoat on them yet in the photos.

I have to rely on decals when it comes to simulating wood. I'd appreciate if someone could show me a way how to replicate wood grain with paint that even I can do.

I fully agree with you. Mr. Zoom Zoom's effort is a true masterpiece. I hope you will share pictures of your's with us once you commence building it.

We've got wheels!

And the first dress rehearsal:

No worries, the body will come down about 2mm in the front once it is properly fixed. The stance is exactly how I wanted it.

Got the foil work finalized:

and installed the windows:

For those who have not built the kit yet, don't worry about the photoetched moldings. They are easy to apply compared with the hassle the windows will give you.

nice work so far!!

That really reminds me of the one I did a year ago...These are great kits, I may build another when I get around to it.
