mustang1989 Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Thanks Tom and Tim! I'll be applying the amber over it. It worked pretty good for the rear side markers with a good layer of paint.
microwheel Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Morning Joe, looks like the markers are working out good for you. Your foil work is turning out nice. It takes alot of patience to work with BMF, but it's worth it. And yours is proving the work your putting into it that's for sure.
mustang1989 Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Thanks Jim and Dan! I appreciate the vote of confidence Jim. Dan I hope to have some updates for tomorrow.
wrecker388 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 So Joe where are the keys at for this one? Or your shrink ray? Just kidding, looks great!
ProStreetOnTheStrip Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Man! Great progress so far Joe! I'm better at Junkers than these beauties, Not to take over this but, here's my just finished Shelby Cobra 427 S/C Barn Find http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=99078&p=1367804
mustang1989 Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) Thanks Riley and Don! What was the process you used on your Cobra body Don? Well folks I figured it's update time no matter how small it is. I've been working on things like the side marker lights and BMF out tha ying yang , outside rear view mirrors, fuel cap , etc. You know , the stuff that eats up the most time and shows very little progress in the overall build? Yeah ....that stuff! After much deliberation and self debate I have opted to start over with the front grill/ valance assy. There was lots of trimming and body work that needed to be done to be able to make this whole piece presentable in the fit category. Its actually less work to just start over with the whole piece than to re-work the existing one. The new piece after clean up: I put a lot of work into the outside rearview mirrors in the way of clean up. Good grief the flash on these things was terrible!!! I had to use mirrors from two different Monogram kits. One mirror in each kit had a big ejector pin mark in the middle of the mirror. I also drilled a hole in the bottom of each mirror to be able to pin them into place. I was going to spray a gloss clear over them but opted for the self leveling feature of Future floor polish. It glossed beautifully (thank God!). The fuel cap is the original part that's been cleaned up, touched up and the center painted. I ended up doing the center twice due to too much removal of black paint on the "FUEL" lettering yesterday. It's not much but I'm making progress................... freakshow12 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Wow! Ok, I'm going to put this out there right now. For the headlights, trim off the mounting posts on the bulbs. Glue the posts into the buckets from the rear so it fills the holes. Once they dry trim the exess so you can detail out the buckets. The lights will look 100x better in the end

ProStreetOnTheStrip Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 The rust is steel wool Instructions: 1. Get fine steel wool 2. Let it sit in saltwater for 2+ Days 3. Let it dry out for 3+ Days 4. Fiddle with it over a disposable cup to get the rust powder out 5. Get a Popsicle stick to get a little out when you need it
mustang1989 Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 I wondered what the recipe was...
om617 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Great job on this. One thing that annoy me with this kit are the headlight glass, the pin that is,when mounted it looks kinda diecast.
mustang1989 Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Thanks for the encouragement and I'll be takin' care of that problem with the lenses.
JTRACING Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Looking good! a lot of new revell kits have this "pin" on the clear lenses, it's terrible design flaw
mustang1989 Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 (edited) Thanks James! I'll end up getting past the headlamp blues thankfully. I forgot to post this yesterday. This is what I started off with for outside rearview mirrors. When I say a lot of clean up...............I mean a lot of clean up. This morning I just worked on the final body prep for installation stuff. Headlining , which I elected not to go too crazy with. It's at this stage that I find myself being careful to not just throw it together. You guys know that point in a build to where you're close to the finish line and the anxiety starts ramping up to be done with it and see it finished. I find myself actually slowing way down at this part of the build to avoid an easy mistake or overlook something. Edited February 18, 2015 by mustang1989
Mopar - D Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Joe I find my self in the same place just wanting to get it finished and move on to the next build. It's hard not to glad your taking your time to make it right with all your work into this one so far.
