An RS 1700T should be easy to make JC, just cut up an XR3i make it RWD and another Cosworh DBA turbo'd up! :D

Seen this video recently, it's good.

That would be a great build Shay. I would need to track down the kit however. I don't have one in the stash.

Thanks Shay. If width where the only issues I could fix them but they are the wrong style and diameter. The kit wheels scale out to 16". They need to look like this.

Unfortunately they look like this.

Nice work so far JC! I don't know how I missed this thread. But, I'm definitely going to be watching it now!

Would these wheels be what you're looking for?

I think they're made by Aoshima. But, I'm not sure as I got them in a trade some time ago. They actually came with a wide and wider set of real rubber tires. They're either 13 or 14 inch wheels. The tires currently on them are the Dunlop's that come in the Revell lowrider kits. So, they're pretty small. If you want, I'll try to locate the project and get an exact measurement on them.

Thanks Roger. Yes I would be interested in any information you have on these wheels. There are not exactly correct but look like they may be an improvement over the kit wheel/tires.

I used to drive to Boreham as part of my job & would sometimes see RS200's coming out of Fords on trailers ect.

Escorts still have a massive following here in the UK.

Reji makes a resin kit of the RS200. Haven't seen the kit in person, just photos. It looks quite nice.

Thanks JC, but I got corrupted by Chevy long ago lol.

Although 30 years ago I had a 1;1 mk2 Escort 4 door 1.6 ghia (RS1800's were very rare & very expensive), so had several Esci Escort kits back then.

If you have a picture of your 1:1 Mk2 I would love to see it Steve.

The kit provides no head light detail. It has you gluing the lenses directly to the flat surface of the grill surround. So I ordered Reji's resin trans-kit as well as the photoetch set. The resin kit provides a head lamp bucket. Strange thing is the resin part it too large to fit inside the photoetch grill so I had the make my own.

Here I have fabricated the front strut braces for the inner fender. They should be vertical but the kit's front suspension geometry is off and I chose not to attempt to correct it.

Will you have the strip of chrome around the grille?

A lot were obviously crashed and had a basic black grill used.

I think they originally all looked like this road car version JC?

Ive got some in the attic, I'll have a look tomorrow.

It was quite smart in its day, light blue with a black vinyl roof with mk3 Capri alloy wheels. I also fitted a RS2000 rear spoiler on the boot (trunk). They have torsion bars to help them open. As the spoiler provides extra weight, you have to climb in the boot with a flashlight & a friend close the lid, or you can never adjust the darn things to a higher setting ! A good friend will open it again lol

A (richer) friend had a red mk2 RS2000 that I always wanted to own, but never did.

Shay's right about that front grill. Mine was also a 1975 car, as the one in Shay's pic. Only the later Escorts (I think after 1977 ?) got the Ford oval badge in the grill rather than the 4 FORD letters.

Believe it or not butrestored mk2 Escort Mexico's & RS2000's (not RS1800's) are worth around the same price as some Tri Chevys here in the UK !

Shay/Steve, the current plan is to have the chrome surround with the blue oval emblem. I'm building a later car. Pretty sure it's going to have Eaton's Yale livery just haven't decide exactly which version. Glad you guys are following the build.

Here I have fabricated the radiator support.

I must say - you are doing a fantastic job on the Escort by adding in all the missing detail.

I've got a couple of these kits (the Revell version) in my stash part built and I can say there are a lot of inaccuracies in the kit's body shape - many of which you have put right - good job!

I love Escorts. They've become really desirable here in the UK over the last decade or so. I am fortunate enough to have a 1:1 RS2000 (same shape, but with the nose-cone) sitting in my garage. I done a full restoration on it and I can confirm that all the extra detail you are adding to the floor an and engine bay is accurate.

Keep up the good work. I will look forward to seeing this one done.

Thanks Sonny. They rally/raced the RS2000 in Group 1 if I am not mistaken. Would love to see a picture of your 1:1.

I know the Escort has a big following as I too am a fan. I'm sure I won't get all the details exactly correct and someone will point out my error(s) but I am giving it my best effort.

Wow, nice car ! Stock or a few sensible upgrades ?

I wish somebody would release a stock kit too. I bought a resin RS2000 a few years back from a uk producer but it was VERY rough !
