impcon Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 A few months ago, I got a '65 Falcon convertible body on a trade here and it is much better than I had expected and well worth restoring. However, it is missing almost everything except the interior and good and tail lights, so I am in need of parts. Just wondering if anyone know whether the AMT '65 Falcon AFX or FX drag car would be a good donor car for a '65 Falcon convertible? In particular, bumpers, grille and hood, steering wheel, plus what ever else can be switched to a basically stock build on the convertible? I suspect that the chassis is butchered and useless but will other parts fit? The convertible will be a six cylinder automatic, so I am not concerned about the engine. Also would like to know which early 60s Ranchero came with the six cylinder engine or what kits would have a 170/200 style engine and preferably automatic transmission? Thanks in advance.
1930fordpickup Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I do not think that any 6 was offered in a Ranchero. They had the engine plate and then went to the BBC if I remember correctly . I am not sure if they ever put a 6 in an early Mustang kit.
afx Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) Replica & Miniatures has a very nice Ford 6-cylinder engine is resin. I highly recommend it. Edited November 21, 2014 by afx
Snake45 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 The FC Falcon has the teardrop hood. I THINK the headlights are blanked off on the grille, too, not sure about that. I think rear bumper and taillights would be okay, as would the windshield (prolly have to cut that free from the back window). You might have better luck finding the parts you need at Modelhaus. Good luck with your project!
thatz4u Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Jo Han Maverick had a 6 cyl. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I'll have a look and see what they have. There is an outfit from Australia selling a Ford six cylinder on Ebay but the cost with shipping is a bit high. I had thought that one of the Rancheros had a six cylinder but I am likely wrong. Snake45, on 21 Nov 2014 - 04:08 AM, said: The FC Falcon has the teardrop hood. Good luck with your project! I was figuring the same thing last night about just ordering from Modelhaus. Buying everything from Modelhaus comes to over $40.00 with shipping. Buying the kit at a bargain price on Ebay and then a hood and grille from Modelhaus comes in at around the same price but maybe I could trade the body, chassis, interior and what I don't use off for something else that I need. I'm not in any hurry as I have several projects on the go at the moment, but I do like to try to get everything together before I start on something rather than get stalled part way through it all because I am missing something. When it comes top obsolete kits, there is no such thing as a reasonably priced build, is there? I'll have the better part of a hundred dollars in this one when it is done by the looks of things when having a pint of the proper colour mixed at the local NAPA is added in. I could skimp and settle for something close, but I really do like the factory fresh look and colours for the most part.
thatz4u Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 if you are in no hurry, check out model car swapmeets in your area, usually can find great stuff at better prices.

Thanks for the suggestion but there is no such thing as a model car swap meet or show anywhere near where I live. I have to rely on the Internet for stuff like this. You guys who have events close to you don't know how lucky you are..

Mark Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 The AWB Falcon bumpers are altered; the "1965" is gone from the license plate areas, mounting tabs removed, and headlamp areas have covers engraved on. As for the six cylinder engine, the AMT '62 Falcon and Comet Stylizing kits (the ones that came in the box with the cellophane window) had them. The Falcon engine was mostly chrome plated. Each had different optional parts. Both kits had them included as display items, no instructions were provided in regards to putting the engine into the car. The assembled engines look pretty good in spite of a lot of molded-in detail (distributor, fuel pump, oil filter). No Ranchero kit ever came with an engine prior to the 1977 issue with the big-block Chevy from the '66 Impala. The Replicas & Miniatures engine looks like a straight copy of Jo-Han's engine, which was included in their '70 Maverick and '71 Mercury Comet kits. That one has better detail than AMT's Falcon/Comet engine, but is a late Sixties unit.
