TimKustom Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Just wanted to give an update on this "thing." With the Birmingham Classic just a touch over a month away, it's time to get hustling... Here is a link to the start-up idea: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...ic=4279&hl= As time passed, it has changed a little. It's switched from a '71 to a '74(?). Don't worry, this one was just as much a glue bomb as the '71 so no real harm done. I liked the big bumpers and the big rear hatch window better anyway. Started out making a rear suspension from some parts box leaf springs and axle from R/M '32 Ford (with some lifting blocks of course). Then it was on to the front suspension. "Stock" was thrown out the window, and it's riding high up front with help from an old R/M Nascar kit. Funny how "gracefully" the custom '71 Hood, the Caddie Donk grille and the "massasged" front bumper all go together. This pony needed some oats, so a 428CJ with a tunnel ram should do the trick. Even found a use for those headers in the AMT "68 Shelby GT500 kit! Here's a parts layout before the sanding, priming, sanding, painting, polishing starts... And a little "BLING" for ya... P.S. The wheels are just "mock ups," wait 'til ya see what it really rolls on...
Harry P. Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I hope you're kidding about the "DONK" theme...
Junkman Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 This is the maddest thing I've ever seen! I love it.
CaseyG83 Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I hope you're kidding about the "DONK" theme... Oh I so hope he isn't kidding this is the best thing i've ever seen!

TimKustom Posted February 25, 2008 Author Posted February 25, 2008 Been working like crazy on this thing trying to get it ready for the Bham Show. It's getting real close. Did a 28 hr slam session over the weekend just for the final assembly/detail. Thought I'd share a little teaser shot. 24K Crystal Faceted 28's. With 13" Brembos..."Thats how I roll."
Spike Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 ###### that thing is actually pretty cool,,,lest see more pics!!
Modellpularn Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 It's sick man!! A big joke, right...? Right....??? Oh well, whatever......
Darrell Gwinn Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 One wheel is just about as big as the whole car...lol
Guest roadkill2525 Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 America's favorite exploding car on glass wagon wheels, odd subject but excellent build.
Blue coyote Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Oh, ######.... Now I'm going to have to build a donk Mustang II with those silly looking rims from the Coddington 32 Ford coupe kit.
TimKustom Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 Glad to see some of y'all "get it." This thing is sort of a train wreck, and everyone loves a train wreck! It really has been a blast to build. I'd never thought I'd be putting this kind of work into something like this, but that's what makes model building so challenging. When coming up with the concept for this one, everyone I explained it to thought I was insane. I had a "vision" of what I wanted to come out like and it's nice to see it pretty close to what I had in mind (ran outta time for the lambo doors though ). Hopefully can finish it up tonight. Still got to glue the wheels, bumpers & grille on and add a few more details...
Darrell Gwinn Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Oh wow, that is really cool...but in a very odd way. haha I think of the Lakers with the purple and gold theme...
CaseyG83 Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Glad to see some of y'all "get it." Oh i get it all right, the wheels are the best part! you gotta love $20K worth of wheels on a $500 car. I love this thing!
Joe Handley Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Reminds me of the one I used to see in San Francisco all the time.. Wanna make a bet that the lug nuts cause more to replace than the car would!
