kasteer Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 ok. Let me know what you think... I finally got the suspension, body and interior to sit where I want it so here's some pics. The top was chopped and lengthened about 1/16th inch to sit right. Still have some sanding and fixing to do on the body, but it's pretty close. Lots of THANKS to Raul for guidance and for sharing his vast knowledge. Here's my inspiration... Yes, I'm going to do the suicide shifter too!!!! But instead of the white walls, I'm using some nice beefy drag tires in the back and some big rounders in the front. Tires are from a 79 Camaro model. I plan to do the visor and put the gas cap on the roof too. I moved the front suspension over the frame and in front of the radiator. I used the same set up as the car in the picture. The interior has a serious hump to clear the driveshaft. Won't be comfy to drive... LOL. These are my color tests. Brown primer with brown and black pastel powder, followed by a clear matte. I think it came out pretty darn close to the picture. I can slide a piece of paper under the frame... perfect.
Raul_Perez Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Looking good, Eric!! That is a true rat, and the suicide shifter makes it all the more dangerous!! Are you going to finish off the seams on the chop or leave it unfinished? If you're going to leave it unfinished, check out the work that Virgil did on his Frankenstein rat last year: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...&hl=frankie He did a great job of replicating the weld lines and gives some tips on how it was done. Keep up the good work,
kasteer Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 I love that Frankenrod! If you look at my inspiration photo you can see the chop welds are visible (smooth, not rough like the Frankenrod) and I'm going to do the same wuith a little silver/aluminum dry brushing.
dub Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 You're well on your way! That thread was a lot of inspiration for the last build I did. It got the ball rolling for me and now all I want to build are rods! Watch out, they're addictive! I can't wait to see the welds. That is something I have to try sometime soon. Keep us posted.
curt raitz Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Looks like fun...should be fun watching it come together I've been wanting to build a 'ratter' for awhile...guess it's time to pull that 29 ford pickup kit out and start hackin' and slammin' thanx for the inspiration
kasteer Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Update pics... I feel like I've been spending a lot of time on this, but looking at the pics, I feel like I haven't made much progress yet. But I did get the interior done (How you like that huge tunnel for the driveshaft?). Putting the gas cap on the roof is off the list. I don't have enough room in the interior to make that realistic. Almost have the visor done. Have to sand and primer some more. Short term to-do list includes finishing and mounting the engine, making an exhaust, finish brake lines, weather exterior and frame, work on headlights and taillights (and license plate) and I'm thinking of putting some wires behind the dash that hang down a little. And of course that cool suicide shifter. Many thanks to Raul for guidance, examples and parts!!!!!
Raul_Perez Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Eric, Nothing says rat like tape on the seats!! (except maybe a spring or two poping out!! ) All you need now are a few french fry and burger wrappers on the floor!! (Yes, I have those, too). Keep us posted on your progress,
Gray Smith Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Looks good man...I like the wheels and the chop! the interior looks mean as well Good job on the lowering too.. Look forward to seeing the finished product Gray
kasteer Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 Feel like I made some goo dprogress last night. Body is ready, suspension, brake lines are all done... engine is coming along too. I added a few wires under the dash just to try it out, will be difficult to see when finished I think though. Here's some pics. Let me know what you think. Feedback is appreciated.
Raul_Perez Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Eric, That thing is looking more dangerous every time I see it!! I can't wait to see the suicide shifter installed!! You know what else would be cool is a cowl mounted steering box coming out the side!! I made this one from aluminum tubing and plate. It would add one more element of DANGER to your rat! Keep up the good work and the posts!
kasteer Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 I really like that cowl steering box. Thanks for the idea. It will be used and should look cool next to the suicide shifter!
ajulia Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 hello there friend! the build is comin out WICKED! The stance is mean and weathering looks great! Keep on wit the keepin on!!!! Thanx for postin Peace Ajulia
Raul_Perez Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 (edited) Hey Eric, You might also look at the 6" chopped 32 Ford shell and grill that Model Car Garage offers: http://www.modelcargarage.com/store/pc/vie...p;idproduct=140 They also offer a 4" chopped grill: http://www.modelcargarage.com/store/pc/vie...p;idproduct=139 For $11 you get the chopped resin shell and a PE grill. I've used several of their different resin shells and PE grills. They make pretty nice stuff. Regards, Edited February 7, 2008 by Raul_Perez
