Roadrunner Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Thanks, Joe, I appreciate that. I'm amazed that the white primer (or perhaps better lighting), has made visible several errors in areas that I thought looked OK before, the most obvious to me being the rough way I handled the seams from the slide molding. There are also more than a few areas with very minor flash (specifically around the window openings), that I thought I had already addressed. It's been years and years since I built and painted a car model, and I'd like to think I'm learning some valuable lessons on this one.

You certainly picked the right place to gather information on that subject. I've learned stuff here that other sites wouldn't share. It's like the information is proprietary to them. "MINE! MINE! MINE!". lol
Roadrunner Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 I like it here too, Joe; seems like a good bunch.
Roadrunner Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 Chrome tree now stripped, using el cheapo oven cleaner from the dollar store. Now I’ll clean this all up, and prepare for the acrylic black to follow, for those items that will be painted chrome.
Roadrunner Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 Nice! Alclad I presume? Yep, I have a brand spanky new bottle here.
Roadrunner Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 Some more minor body issues straightened out. I hope to have the blue on by Friday, if I run into no further problems.
mustang1989 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Yep, I have a brand spanky new bottle here. I just bought a bottle of highly polished aluminum alclad and can't wait to try it out.
Roadrunner Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 With body now (fairly) straight, I’m finally able to add some color. This is the first coat, with perhaps one or two more to follow.
Roadrunner Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 This lacquer dries so fast, it's amazing. Second (and probably last) color coat now done.
mustang1989 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 That's definitely a bright blue Kevin! What color is that?
Roadrunner Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 It's Testors Icy Blue metallic, and man is it metallic; probably too much so for this small scale, but there's no turning back now.
81VTRacing Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I tried that color on a '69 Camaro Z/28. It really stood out with the black racing stripes that went on with it. The color looks AMAZING on this car as well. Talking about a lot of metallic. I think that's quite an understatement at the amount there is.
mustang1989 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 How crazy are you going with the power plant and all?

Thoughts of the old Pacta metalflake came immediately to mind. How crazy are you going with the power plant and all? This will be a "hood closed" model, so almost nothing will be done to engine or compartment; same with the chassis. Just a simple OOB project;... getting my feet wet, as it were.
mustang1989 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Thaaaaat's right! You're building a curbside model. I forgot. In that case what's the wheel/tire arrangement?
Roadrunner Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Thaaaaat's right! You're building a curbside model. I forgot. In that case what's the wheel/tire arrangement? Stock wheels, though I'll airbrush the insides, and tires will get dull coat, plus very dark gray treads.
mustang1989 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I'm looking forward to seeing how this is all going to look when it comes together! Looking forward to more.....
Roadrunner Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 After block sanding color coat last night, I added first clear coat this morning. Not too shabby I think. (I did accidentally sand through to primer in one small area though.)
Roadrunner Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Third coat of clear, and I think this is where I'll stop. I'm pretty satisfied with this.
Roadrunner Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Bumpers, valve covers, gas cap, shift lever and velocity stacks all cleaned up, and given a coat of Gunze gloss black.
Roadrunner Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 Chrome items are more or less finished, but I'll probably strip both bumpers and redo.
Roadrunner Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 Exhaust manifolds all painted up and awaiting dull coat; probably pointless though, as they'll never be seen.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 It won't be pointless, if you turn the model over you will see those parts alittle. BTW I love the build
