Tony_B Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Hello everyone! What a great forum. I've been lurking around for a few weeks. Computer nerd and librarian by trade, but needing a new hobby different from computers. Started back in with car stuff...looks like there's a renaissance of great stuff! Working on about 6 different ones now...I've started in on a snap GTO for tonight, a Christmas present....not a bad kit for me...easy stuff to start with. Going with SkyLine-like blue (I know it's a little lighter than stock) and the metallic blue interior. I'm hoping to use the same color for my '58 Christine model (Anybody know if I use blue for the body, should I use BMF for the side trim or just paint it white?) (I'm no purist...) Just thought I better join up and say Hi.... See ya.... --Tony
Chillyb1 Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Welcome to the forum from a former Ohioan. I grew up in Sandusky and went to college in Athens. And you are right about a kind of renaissance in the hobby. I got back into it about ten years ago and the tools and supplies that are widely available to us modelers is pretty astonishing. So, jump right in and show us some pictures of your work when you get the chance.
StevenGuthmiller Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Welcome Tony! As far as the trim on the '58 Plymouth goes, it should be chrome with aluminum bright work in the middle. How you achieve that is entirely up to you. What I used to do is foil the whole thing & then put a coat of "dull coat" over the center section to simulate the aluminum. Now I mask & spray the aluminum section with "Alclad Polished Aluminum" & then foil the outer trim. There are many ways to do it, these are just a couple of ideas. Good to have you! Good luck! Steve
Tony_B Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Morning....thanks everyone! These are some great ideas! I'll give the side trim a whirl with the aluminum paint and BMF. Now my only problem is to try to finish one kit before I find another one! Hahaha! I've got some other works in progress...will post them in the other works in progress thread.... See ya....
1930fordpickup Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Welcome to the forum. Yes the pesky finish what you started thing is hard for most of us.
Tony_B Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Around the Columbus area.....I've found a good hobby shop in town that always has good kits: Tom Thumb Hobbies. I always try to buy local if possible...sometimes I can't, but I try... See ya....
