gotnitro? Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 The holidays were fantastic this year. I must've been good, cause under the tree was the Mobius Lonestar, and the Revell Pete tri axle wrecker !!! I already had the day cab from cargostar in the stash...time to get building !The Lonestar wrecker I envisioned looked better as a daycab, and Dave (cargostar) had the grille. I planned to utilize the front clip from the Lonestar to maintain the cab and hood mounts, and also the front driveline. The Pete frame would provide the frame under the wrecker bed..just the look I was after ! Special thanks to Chuck Most for the advice for the new cab mounts, and a fellow modeler offered a set of 32 Ford headlights .Thanks Steve! Happy modeling!
gotnitro? Posted December 31, 2014 Author Posted December 31, 2014 (edited) The cab is just sitting on the modified kit floor , working out whether to use the Pete tanks..or the corn binder set without the fairings. All the chrome will be stripped and replaced w Alclad. The kit slam locks are being replaced for a set from Don Mills which look more detailed. Jeff Edited December 31, 2014 by gotnitro?
Mopar - D Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Cool build looking forward to see your progress.
Tesla Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Excellent choice for the wrecker kit. I will definitely being watching this!
gotnitro? Posted December 31, 2014 Author Posted December 31, 2014 Thanks! Tough cutting up 2 good kits to make this build, but everything will be used . Oh...and the paint scheme? Black, silver, and orange...and new for me...TONS of chrome!!
Old Buckaroo Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Nice looking project. I always thought this kit would look at home with a wrecker body for as much as wreckers are pimped out anymore. Could you elaberate more on the tip from Chuck on the cab mounts ?
gotnitro? Posted December 31, 2014 Author Posted December 31, 2014 No problem. .chucks tip was use the existing front mounts , then just bring the rear cab mounts to the new shorter floor! Remove the kit tabs and glue . I used his lonestar day cab post to modify the kit floor pan
gotnitro? Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 We have a rolling chassis!!! A cool video showed the Harley Edition engine, so a quick mix of testors enamels..we have color! The tranny still needs paint, and the engine detailed. Also the revised cab mounts are clearly seen , and the Pete tank waiting to be mounted. next up is the interior, and the custom headlight pockets. Happy Modeling
Rigzndiesel Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 The wrecker body is a nice addition to the IH. This is one kit I don't have but looks really nice when built. Looks like your moving along nicely on this one. Can't wait to see the Harley colors on this! Thanks for sharing! Jeff
gotnitro? Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 Thanks! The build is moving along quickly
gotnitro? Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 Small update for today..The Harley Edition bumper !! The top photo is for reference only, shows the pair of driving lights in the bumper vs, the kit single light. I removed the nub inside w a grinding burr..and eye balled the opening. The final pic is the finished openings, now to box the backs, and add the smaller lights! thanks for looking in, any feedback welcome
Petetrucker07 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Nice touch there. The little details are what set things off.
Mopar - D Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Nice work on the lower lights are you going to change the center opening to?
kilrathy10 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 That's a great looking bumper....Nice work getting that done....Very nice touch....
gotnitro? Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 Thanks! The little details should make this stand out..The paint job will definitely do that!! What's everyone's opinion on the bumper opening. Should I change it to the huge squirrel catcher..or leave it alone?
Petetrucker07 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) Id say if your going for the Harley edition, open it up like the 1:1. You already have the grille, may as well go all in. Edited January 3, 2015 by Petetrucker07
kilrathy10 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Well, I think the "squirrel catcher" opening does add a little character to the truck.....Almost like a "Cars" world thing.....Makes it look like it's about to say something....
gotnitro? Posted January 4, 2015 Author Posted January 4, 2015 Yeah..no point in doing it half ass! Found a nice piece of metal screen from Teds to back fill the hole. Good call on the grill! It does look more menacing opened up Date night...more updates tomorrow!
olsbooks Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Somebody is doing some serious styrene slinging! VERY nice job Jeff. This one is going to be a definite "wowee".
