This is up next, I have paint that's near enough to this old VW colour.

Ah, VW Brazil Brown Metallic .....

Looking forward to seeing you build this one, I'll be along as soon as I've ordered the paint for mine

There's a lot more masking needed for black trim after the paint than I thought. LOL

I'll get another roll of Tamiya tape ordered tomorrow.

Still going for the metallic blue then Geoff?

So you're going to make the wheelarch extensions and twin head lights Geoff? :D

The colour is nicer though.

Coming from the man that ordered actual Trabant paint from the former East Germany that's a bit rich!

You have another week or so left on the Trabby?

I know, sad isn't it ....

Yes, I reckon a week or so should have the Trabbi finished

Nice bodyshell, the front wings/fenders are a bit sharp though, so only a tiny bit of sanding needed.

Got it primed and the basecoat on, sorry the pics are very dark, I'll get some outside tomorrow.

It's close enough to the VW colour even though it's Ford Aztec Bronze Geoff! LOL

I don't really like the colour now after taking a pic outside today.

I'm not sure whether to clear and polish it just to see how it goes, or just put it in DOT 4 and start again.

My uncle had a Rabbit Cabriolet in that color. He let my mom use it when we were in Miami so she didn't have to rent a car. She managed to trash the gear-box in less than a week. Plus, run it out of gas once...the gauges were in German.:lol:

I suppose the 70's colours were a bit strange, I think it's more commonly seen on the Mk1 Scirocco.

Standard equipment back in the day!

The frosted bits on the front of the rear wheelarch (for black trim) have nearly dissapeared already even before a clearcoat. it's not too important on the basic Cabrio, but watch out on the GTI, seeing as you have one now Geoff :D

Just got some clear on. It looks better, at least when it's still wet. LOL

Cheers Peter.

Long way to go yet Geoff, and thanks!

Many thanks JC, I'm afraid to build my RS 1800 now after seeing your one! :D

Nice start on the Mk1 Cabriolet. I'm planning to get one, as well as the GTi kit. I've already researched the colours for the GTi (fairly easy as they didn't have too many colours) but it'll take a bit more time to get the information regarding the cabriolet as they used more colours and the car was produced for a much longer time. A neighbour of one of my friends has a cabriolet and I've already got permission to get some detail pictures of it to help me with my build.

Keep us updated on your progress - your paint has turned out really well!

I managed to get a bit of polishing done, I'll probably give it a touch more tomorrow.

Got some Tamiya light tan ordered for the interior and hood/convertible uptop, should have it by Monday. :D
