The 601s saloon is still on the bench, and next I was going to start the Revell Golf Cabriolet, but still need to order in the paint for that and a few other models, so as I had the paint for this in stock, I thought I would make a start on it.

The bodyshell was broken when it arrived, but instead of sending it back, I got a replacement and then bought this one at cost price instead of sending it back.

This one will be done in genuine Trabant Capri Green, yes the paint I'm using is made in what was East Germany, and made to the original formula, it's a real PITA to apply, as it doesn't like to be applied in a smooth fine spray, it really likes to be put on in heavy coats, but with a little patience it can be made to spray o.k

Wow nice start on this one Geoff. I really like the color.

Probably one of Trabants brighter colours, it would certainly brighten up a grey misty day in East Germany

You're flying along Geoff!

Must be the new tri-focal glasses and better heart tablets from the doctors ......

Looks good. It's pretty much the same kit as the sedan, so you should be chock full of experience!

I still want to convert one into a van, I think by then I should be able to put one together without looking too much at the instructions

Got the wet sanding done, the bonnet was fine and will be polished, the tailgate didn't need to be wet sanded, the body was a different story, pretty much like the 601s saloon I've got on the bench, the roof went without a hitch, but the lower body will need a respray, but I have plenty of the paint left

Repainted the body yesterday, and got it wet sanded, all went well, ready for the polish now, unfortunately the primer started to show through the paint on the roof, so that was masked off and repainted this afternoon, still a few marks to sand out, but there's plenty of paint on there, so no worries of sanding or polishing through ....

Found out that this paint loves to be bladdered on, it really doesn't like going through an airbrush, even with a # 5 tip on my Paasche H, in the end I used my old but very faithful Badger basic spraygun,

After being painted three times, the roof has finally come up o.k, still a little polishing to do, but I'm happy with it, hopefully the body will look as good when it's polished,

The paint is really polishing out nice Geoff

Cheer's Jim, I think I'm getting used to using this paint, not the easiest paint I've ever used,

Now, that's one proud Trabant owner driving that color around! .. I like that!

I do think it's one of Trabants brightest colours, well the roof is finished, the right hand side is finished, but I'm not 100% happy with the drivers side, I might be getting a repaint on the one side, good job I have loads of the paint left over ...

Well after a few attempts to get the paint right, I repainted the one side with some paint I had left in a jar, it got a good stir, and the finish was brilliant, but once all the masking was taken off, the paint had a slightly darker shade to it, anyway after thinking long and hard, I decided to take the paint off and start with a black canvas, the stripper I was using took off the gloss coat, but thankfully didn't touch the lacquer primer, so I'm now ready to start all over again ....
