Casey Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Did MPC supply two-piece styrene slicks and separate pieces of tread to create each of the four "Giant tractor-type mud tires"? Is that what I'mm seeing in the picture below?
Draggon Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Yep thats how mine was back in the day. I could never figure out how to glue the treads to the slicks. At least now I know where those strange plastic slicks in my parts box came from.

At least now I know where those strange plastic slicks in my parts box came from. Wow, that's wild. Are they made of vinyl or something else? I would imagine they'd need to be flexible enough to bend around the slicks, yet still made of something which typical model glue would be able to bond to.
GLMFAA1 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Yes they were three piece tire, I used 'Goo' brand contact cement to get the tread on the plastic sidewall greg
Mark Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 An innovative idea, but that vinyl looks like the same stuff used to mold the figures in the Raiders' Coach kit...no glue or paint known to man at the time would stick to that stuff...
GLMFAA1 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Here are pics of my two encounters with these tires, The Jeep chassis tires are from a glue bomb that some one else did and the tread ends are on the bottom, There is a little space between the tread on those. The Dodge chassis are the tires I did with the contact cement. I stretched them as I put them on the core used tape all around the tire until set They do make a nice mudder, upcoming project greg
Mr mopar Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Someone needs to cast up them tires ? They look Awesome.
