Craig Irwin Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Just an observation. A few months back I was looking for a Revell 57 Ford kit. I was wanting the stock / drag car version which was a regular release. All I could find was the NASCAR version, and they were everywhere.
iangilly Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Only NASCAR kit I have any interest in are pre 1975, if it newer than that no thanks.
Petetrucker07 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Im only interested in NASCAR kits to bash. So im almost in the boat of buying and throwing in the trash.
Relic_Models Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 A major problem with any racing car kits comes down to licencing agreements (using brand names and logos); coupled with the fact that every season cars change. This creates a lot of work for the kit producers, new box art, decals and instructions at the very least. And really how many times will you buy a slightly altered kit just because it's this seasons version (WRC even changes decals for many of the individual rallies)? This creates a low volume of sales per kit issue.
kruleworld Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Every NASCAR kit I see on Ebay is $10 plus another $10 shipping. Maybe they should be selling them on ebay australia for $50 australia sucks
Mr Stock Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Ive yet to build any NASCAR kit, if they do come up over here in the UK they go for $30 + !, Id be happy with a $5 one ....shame the shipping wouldnt be so kind.
Deathgoblin Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I just got one. Loos like an interesting subject of a car that's difficult to find a kit of. Yeah, It's still a NASCAR car, but still. Got the Country Time Olds for cheap.
Ben Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 HA! Try to buy the original issue MPC nascar kits and then say that!
hellonwheelz3 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 My LHS has the Petty car in stock and it's been there forever. Other than that I hav seen a NASCAR kit in stores in years.
johnbuzzed Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 HA! Try to buy the original issue MPC nascar kits and then say that! Yeah, those '70's and early '80's kits are doing well, mainly for nostalgic and historic reasons. Along came the mid-'90s and beyond...
Greg Myers Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Yup.... Nascar Kits are not popular at all anymore.... The only ones I ever bought were the Days of Thunder cars.... Only because of the movie tie in, not to build.... and yet, we still have a very healthy NASCAR thread on this very board. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showforum=32 and there just buildin' away.
ZTony8 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 (edited) Around here (metro Detroit) you usually can't even give away a NASCAR kit.Local clubs even discourage using them as presents at the annual Christmas "Dirty Santa" gift exchanges.Anyone who tries it and is found out is openly criticized. Having said that,I was surprised last November when a vendor at the D.A.A.M. show was successful in unloading several Mongram and AMT NASCAR kits from his late brother's collection for $8 to $10 each. Most of these were Petty and/or Earnhardt kits. The others did languish and are still unsold. I have several NASCAR kits in my stash.I've never built one but with their low value I'm thinking I might build some just for the experience(after all,if I mess the thing up I have plenty more to use)and then use others for a good source of parts for other projects and for painting practice.
