502 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 This started as a quick build early last year because I needed a truck to take to some shows. It has slowly progressed to getting more and more detailed. I need to strip the body and repaint it. I was rushing on it and it didnt turn out. Now that I'm working on it again, I have scratch built a frame. I am planning on putting an LS in it too. The smoothies are from Steven Zimmerman.
Belugawrx Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I love the 55 cameo Nice job on that frame ! Did you use hot water or torch on that rear? I am following Cheers
502 Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 Thanks guys, Belugawrx I made the bends in the rear rails with a lighter. I slowly heated and bent them, I probably wont ever make any like that again. They were a pain to make.
Belugawrx Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 They came out pretty uniform in size,.. and judging by your graph mat,... equal Nice job! If I tried to do that I would end up with a bowl of spaghetti Keep 'er goin' Cheers
Revstew Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 This is coming along fantastic. Love the smooth wheels!! What did you use to bend the rails like that and keep them so uniform on both sides. I am also doing a Cameo model. The thread is under model cars workbench though. Would love to know what your thoughts are? Thank you for any advice you can give.
502 Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 Thanks guys. Revstew your cameo is incredible. I just heated the rails up and bent them free hand. I'm just gonna call it luck that they came out as close as they did.

I'm not that quick of a builder and there is a long line of builds awaiting my attention. Im still learning tho, hopefully speed will come with experience. The Merc is one of my first builds since I was a kid and my first scratch build.

The Merc is one of my first builds since I was a kid and my first scratch build. I totally know what you are talking about Jason. I am a very slow builder but am hoping that in 2015 I can get a few knocked out. I have a very deep stash as well of needed attention but sometimes when a build starts to speak to me I just have to bump someone up the list and get to that one. This Cameo was supposed to be later down the line and just something said it was time LOL!! It will be my first completed kit in almost 2 years or so and is by far the most detailed level I have ever taken a model. But I do now have a couple Cameo style projects bouncing around in my head. Keep up the great work. Any updates on this Cameo build by chance?
502 Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 Its kind of on the back burner. I have two customer builds I'm trying to knock out right now. I plan to make this my contest truck for derby city shootout in July.
